If the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray‘s nearly 500-hp V-8 engine fails to entice you, then the forthcoming Corvette Z06‘s 650-hp V-8 ought to do the trick. And it’s not just the horsepower output that’s changed. The Z06’s engine will be an entirely different animal from its lesser sibling, increasing performance and bringing an entirely different character to the car. Read on to find out why. 2022 Chevrolet Corvette Z06: Twin-Cam, Twin-Turbo, Flat-Plane Unlike the LT2 engine of the Stingray, the Z06’s V-8 will forgo pushrod valves and a cross-plane crank for dual-overhead cams and a flat-plane crank. The resulting engine should possess the rev-happy nature and aural thrills of the Corvette C8.R’s V-8, which also happens to use twin cams and a flat-pla...
We are all ears whenever Jeep announces it’s doing something to the Wrangler. The rugged SUV is the bedrock of Jeep and the brand is the price of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA). Our enamor with the current Wrangler is no secret. In fact, we named our 2019 SUV of the Year. And we have known for some time that a plug-in hybrid version was due for a 2020 launch. FCA is great about releasing five-year plans that get us all excited, but the automaker also is more crisis-prone than most automakers. As such, we have learned virtually all the company’s plans are subject to change on a whim. See all 72 photos So we were heartened to learn during FCA’s 2020 annual shareholder meeting that the Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) is still on track for a 202...
With no festivals or clubs to conjure the magic of their new album thanks to the unwavering wrath of COVID-19, Disclosure have ventured into the capacious world of Minecraft to activate the forthcoming record, Energy. With the help of design collective Blockworks, the barnstorming electronic music tandem unveiled the “ENERGY Minecraft Experience” today, revealing an expansive world within the wildly popular sandbox video game. Designed to animate the kinetic sound of the duo’s highly anticipated third studio album—their first in 5 years—the digital landscape is a dazzling actualization not only of their Grammy Award-nominated sonic flair, but also their dedication to environmental preservation. Disclosure After the album official drops this Friday, August 2...
The Batman director Matt Reeves just revealed the new Batmobile on Twitter, and it’s a definite departure from past movie cars. The movie press had earlier heard rumors that the new Batmobile would be more of a muscle car than the military-inspired Tumbler that appeared in Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight film trilogy. That is exactly what we have here, although the mid-mounted engine is a bit of a surprise. What we can see resembles a lot of different classic muscle cars, and that’s probably intentional. The deeply recessed front headlamps have a generic late 1960s look to them: a bit of Mopar, a bit of Mustang, maybe even a hint of De Tomaso Mangusta. Extremely swoopy rear fenders with pointed trailing ends that hang over three-element taillights are the closest thing we...
There are some car enthusiasts who insist that Nissan’s glory days are behind it. That cars like the R34 Skyline GT-R, 240Z, and 300ZX were a high watermark that the brand hasn’t been able to live up to in recent years. But even legends like that can be forgotten, and this 1994 Clayton Cunningham Nissan 300ZX IMSA racer who’s spare body (and a number of other bits and pieces) was found in a storage unit last week is no exception. In 1994, the No. 76 300ZX was powered by Nissan’s VRH35 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V-6 engine. In race specification it made 641 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 520 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm. The entire engine only weighed just 370 pounds. No. 76 also raced at Sebring and Daytona that year where it took home first place with American r...
I really do love playing with makeup, but 99% of the time, when it comes to my beauty routine, I want things to be quick and fuss-free. It is because of this desire that my love for products that do it all is ever-growing. If I could have it my way, my morning makeup routine would consist of no more than three products that I can scribble over my face and blend out in seconds. And it seems I’m not alone. According to recent insights from Bobbi Brown, 47% of consumers are currently looking for multipurpose claims with all beauty searches. Whether it’s blusher that doubles up as lipstick, bronzer you can swipe over your lids or highlight that works as a primer too, makeup products that have multiple uses are at the top of my shopping list. Urban Decay’s eye shadow palettes are the stuff of legend. For a brand that was largely known for its rich rainbow of colour (one super-fan even had their car sprayed to match the vibrant hue of her favourite Urban Decay nail polish, the now-retired Asphyxia), its 2010 debut of Naked, a 12-shade nude eye shadow palette, was a gamble; one that certainly paid off. It might have started out as an office brainstorm, but the Naked palette became one of the most iconic beauty products of the last decade. Since then, the success of the original palette has spawned an array of iterations: Naked2 (retired), Naked3, Naked Smoky (retired), Naked Basics (retired), Naked2 Basics (my beloved six-shade palette, which I’m buying in bulk incase it also gets retired), Naked Heat, N...
So what is her stylist Angie Smith’s tips for making the most out of a high-street budget? “I think that certain brands excel in specific styles. For example, if I need a great cashmere jumper, I always go to John Lewis & Partners or M&S; for tailoring, L.K.Bennett and The Kooples; for coats and skirts, I go to Jigsaw; for dresses, Whistles; for skirts, H&M; and for shoes, Kurt Geiger. For everything else—and for one-off unexpected pieces—I regularly shop Massimo Dutti, Maje, Hobbs, Next, Warehouse, Russell & Bromley, Topshop and Office.” As for outfits that always work for Holly? “She has an amazing hourglass figure, so she suits fitted, tailored shapes,” Smith shares. “All her looks have to work 360 because we never know what she’...
This week I went to Oxford Street for the first time in five months, and it’s fair to say the shopping experience was rather different to the last time I visited. There’s the mask wearing and constant santising, of course, but I found that the most significant change is that at least 90% of all changing rooms are now closed. Clothes that have been touched now have to be quarantined for 48 hours, and so trying on a jumper or pair of boots is now followed by a logistical operation that is just near impossible for most high street stores. The one place I did manage to try on clothes however is at the personal styling suites at Topshop’s flagship, where you can book an appointment in advance and have a room to yourself for an hour or so. I tried on a...
Even if you don’t spot the iconic Mercedes-Benz three-pointed star badge, you might think every Sprinter van you see in America is, well, a Mercedes. Well, they are, except when they’re Freightliners. Mercedes-Benz started selling Sprinters in the States under the U.S.-based truck company’s name in 2001 (Daimler has owned Freightliner since 1981) but will no longer do so after the 2021 model year. That leaves the Sprinter as a Mercedes-Benz and nothing else in America—as Benz’s tagline goes, the best or nothing, right? Why no more Freightliner Sprinter? Apparently, Mercedes was selling far more Mercedes-Benz Sprinters than Freightliner versions. And with predicted slowdowns in sales and the sort of economic activities that drive van purchases, Mercedes-Benz decided ...
Americans have plenty of automotive icons, including the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Corvette, the 1959 Cadillac Coupe DeVille, the 1955-1957 Chevrolet Bel Air—it’s a long list. We have quite a few superstars in our stables, but we often forget this grouping of immortal Detroit iron doesn’t hold nearly as high a status abroad, especially in places such as the United Kingdom. Indeed, the Brits have their own pantheon of vehicular greats, and we felt it was high time to feature the smallest yet brightest star from among the bunch—the Mini Cooper. We’ve scrounged around the archives to put together a folio of vintage photos of classic Minis doing whatever classic Minis are wont to do. As usual, we picked out a few of our favorites to highlight below, but don’t miss the ful...
My ideal kind of world would be forever be in late September / early October—it’s not too dark at night but light enough in the morning to not feel depressing, the weather is also not too cold and not too warm. This would also mean it would be permanently knitwear season. Oh, knitwear. What’s to dislike about this item of clothing? It’s versatile, cosy, can be oversized, tight-fitting, looks great with jeans. It is the only item of clothing that feels like you’re getting a hug—I could go on. My love for knitwear isn’t what you’ve come for, however. You want to know what the biggest jumper trends of this season are, and where you can find them. There are five key looks I’ve highlighted below, so keep scrolling for more. You Deserve t...
