Big Daddy Barn Find: Ed Roth’s 1956 Ford F-100 Found after 50 Years in Hiding

Ed Roth was a man of many talents: painter, pinstriper, airbrush artist, fabricator. He was also a great self-promoter. Roth understood that an artist working in obscurity would likely starve. Success meant getting the word out about your skills. In the early 1950s, Roth bought a 1948 Ford, painted it red, lettered it with the name of his business and phone number, and adorned the roof over the back window with papier-mache head and hands. Sort of a bizarre take on the old “Kilroy was Here” cartoon. But, as he told Tony Thacker in the book Hot Rods by Ed “Big Daddy” Roth, that head “drew too many complaints.” So in 1957, he bought a light green 1956 Ford F-100 pickup. Roth repainted the truck white and adorned it with red flames and added a tonneau cover...

These Trekky Sandals Keep Selling Out At Record Speed

Sandal brand Arizona Love popped up on my radar last year when I spotted a steady stream of Instagram influencers wearing the printed trek sandals. Jessie Bush, Erica Davies and our very own Who What Wear columnist Monikh were all spotted wearing the shoes. There was only one problem: They kept selling out. Thankfully, the brand has created even more styles and has been restocked on various online retailers.  Much like the Velcro “dad” sandals by Chanel, Teva‘s classic hikers and all the other iterations before and after, these are sandals of the practical variety. While they’re a traditional hiking style, the multicoloured fabric wrapped around the straps makes them so much more fun. The brand was started only a couple of years by Fren...

Stray Dog Becomes Hyundai Dealership’s Best Friend

It’s 2020, and we’re all in desperate need of some uplifting news. If it involves a lovable dog with a rags-to-dealer story, we are there. And that’s why we’re so happy to be telling you about Tuscon Prime instead of some grim auto manufacturing news. This dog used to be a stray, but with a little luck he became a fixture at a Hyundai dealer—and now he’s getting international exposure. The dealership is located in Brazil, and we came across this story on Hyundai’s Brazilian Instagram account. The story goes that Tucson Prime was a stray, but liked hanging around the dealership. Taking pity on the adorable pup, the dealership “adopted” him. It was a smart move for both, since Tucson Prime became the center of attention—and had a stable living ...

Leaked! Next-Gen 2022 Subaru BRZ Set to Launch Spring 2021

We’ve known for a while that a successor to the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 twins is in the works, but now we know just how close the next-gen jointly developed sports car is. A photo of a Subaru future product presentation was leaked to enthusiast forum GR86.com, and in it is the automaker’s product plans through 2023. There are many juicy tidbits in the timeline, but the one that jumps out immediately is the BRZ replacement, which the leak suggests will launch next spring. That’s earlier than expected, and likely means the car is close to fully developed. A set of spy photos posted to GR86.com confirm that test mules are already out and about, with one spotted testing alongside a Ford Mustang. The car is still heavily camouflaged, so it’s hard to make out any details...

The Key Autumn Pieces You Can Buy Now, Whatever Your Budget

It’s finally here! Our bumper 2020 autumn shopping special, featuring all the styles and silhouettes that you can expect to see hitting the streets (socially distanced of course) in the coming months. If you’ve read our autumn/winter trend report, you’ll know that as an industry, we’re moving toward a more seasonless and timeless approach to design, which transcends traditional notions of trends. “We are certainly seeing designers choosing to showcase a selection of really wearable pieces, more so than other recent seasons,” says Elizabeth von der Goltz, global buying director at Net-a-Porter. “This reflects the customer’s desire to make more considered purchases with sustainability in mind by investing now and wearing fo...

8 Trends That Are the Talk of Copenhagen This August

There is a question mark over fashion weeks for 2020 and whether they will go ahead digitally or in a physical format. Copenhagen Fashion Week took place this week with several small, intimate presentations and shows, which brought with it the return of street style. Each year, Copenhagen Fashion Week is becoming more recognised on the international fashion stage thanks to its leading sustainable initiatives and designers, such as Ganni and Cecilie Bahnsen, who are celebrated for their distinctive aesthetics. The street style scene is also highly influential, as there is a long list of trends that have originated from the Danish capital. Think colourful midi dresses paired with flip-flops and bright, colourful prints worn together.  You won’t see editors and buyers wearing an al...

8 Fashion Editors Reveal the Top Items on Their Summer Wish Lists

There are few people who spend as much time contemplating clothes as fashion editors do. After all, it’s packed right there into the job title that a healthy obsession with all things style should, at the very least, be a prerequisite.  With a few weeks of summer still left to enjoy, I thought I’d tap into the knowledge of eight fashion experts in order to find out what is still on their wish lists for the remainder of the season. Whether they’re planning ahead by shopping trans-seasonal items that will see them into autumn or living in the moment by investing in key summer necessities, you can guarantee these lists are thoroughly researched and only contain the best.  From sandals to sunglasses, one key thread throug...

These Multi-Use Pigment Paints Have Totally Changed the Way I Do My Makeup

Anyone who knows me knows that my makeup skills are seriously lacking. Being a beauty editor means that my knowledge of makeup is astounding. I know about formulas, textures, trends and can talk you through a how-to in no time at all. My own artistic ability, though, is lacking. I couldn’t execute a cut-crease if I tried, and the likes of contouring, baking and colour-correcting are totally lost on me. I like quick, easy-to-use products that are totally foolproof. It’s understandable, therefore, that when I heard about the game-changing new makeup brand Depixym, which offers up a range of pure makeup pigments, I was totally uninterested. They’re designed to be mixed in palettes and used however and wherever one might please, so, frankly, I found the very...

Chevy’s Shark-Themed Concept Cars: The Apex Predators of Auto Shows in the 1960s

One of our favorite non-automotive times of the year is upon us: Discovery’s Shark Week 2020 began on Sunday, Aug. 9. As such, we’re thoroughly in the mood for some automotive sharkdom, and we figured this is a great time to look back at some of Chevrolet’s cool shark-themed concepts of the 1960s. 1961 Mako Shark concept: Selling the new Corvette Legend has it that the original Mako Shark concept car’s name and color scheme were inspired by the real thing—specifically, a mako shark that GM styling chief Bill Mitchell caught himself and had mounted in his office. The story goes that Mitchell insisted that the blue-grey-white blending on the show car exactly match the shark, and when his staff couldn’t get the car painted to his satisfaction, they stole the shar...

ABT’s Audi RS Q8-R is More Carbon Fiber Than Car

The Audi RS Q8 is a rocket ship of a crossover SUV. It currently holds the lap record at the Nürburgring for a production SUV, bettering its more powerful Italian cousin, the Lamborghini Urus, by five seconds. But for all of its racetrack crushing pace, some might say the RS Q8 is lacking a little bit of wow factor. Luckily, that’s where famed Audi tuner ABT comes in, and it calls this creation the RS Q8-R. To celebrate its 125th birthday, ABT is giving the RS Q8 a bit of a carbon-fiber filled makeover. The changes include adding bits of carbon fiber to the grille surround, front splitter, fender flares, rear window surround, and rear fascia. There are also little winglets at the top of the tailgate that are made from—you guessed it—carbon fiber. The car sits on massive 23-inch rims ...

These Are the Summer Sandals Alexa Chung and Sienna Miller Agree On

As a brand, Birkenstock is no stranger to designer collaborations. Over the years, the footwear label has partnered with the likes of Valentino, Rick Owens and more, to create special edition iterations of its instantly-recognizable sandals.  Of course, this summer is no different as Birkenstock recently launched a collaboration collection in partnership with buzzy, New York-based brand Proenza Schouler. Taking Birkenstocks’ signature two-strap silhouette, the designers added contrast top-stitching to the sandals and released the footwear in a range of colours including black, white, silver and yellow.  Unsurprisingly, the item has already caught the attention of celebrities and influencers worldwide, as the shoe has been worn by Alexa Chung, Sienna Miller an...

I Do All My Skincare at Home But Leave Facials to the Pros—Here’s Why

Well, pretty much whatever you want them to be. Facials are, as the word implies, treatments carried out on your face. Underneath this umbrella comes a host of treatment styles that you can choose from based on your skin’s needs. To fill you in on some of the different types of facials around, I looked to some of my go-to’s. At SknDoctor, a Super Glow Facial (£220) includes a resurfacing treatment, oxygen therapy and microcurrent, aka everything you need to walk out looking more lifted and radiant. Meanwhile, at West Room Aesthetics, The Reset Facial Treatment (£225) is bespoke, but the medical-grade session typically includes a deep cleanse, light peel, masks and serums best suited for your skin.  Also on the facial spectrum is Face Gym with ...
