Although its cubelike shape suggests otherwise, the Kia Soul EX has better handling than we expected, making it more fun to drive than one might assume. Credit the good handling to a properly tuned chassis and competent steering, the combination of which gives the Soul the sort of body control that encourages more precise lane changes, quicker on-ramp speeds, and the occasional jaunt down a favorite wiggly road. It won’t be confused for a hot hatch, but the Soul EX offers a connectedness and composedness that is mostly absent among its competitors, such as the Nissan Kicks, Toyota CH-R, and Hyundai Venue. This fact didn’t escape our judges at last year’s Car of the Year, many of whom applauded the Soul’s handling. Car of the Year guest judge Chris Theodore said, ...
“If the car was invented today and we said this consumer product will improve mobility and productivity, but … it will kill 33,000 people a year in America, do you think the government would approve it for sale?” Volvo senior safety engineer Thomas Broberg’s measured iconoclasm came as the automaker defended its decision to restrict the top speed of all its vehicles to 112 mph. I first came across this institutional mindset 30 years ago, when I interviewed Pehr Gyllenhammar, author, economist, lawyer, and, at the time, chairman of the board of AB Volvo. “We are not a luxury car producer,” declaimed Gyllenhammar bluntly. The smiles of the Volvo PR flacks became instantly fixed, brittle. Color drained from their faces. The Volvo chairman was happy to elaborate: ...

Well, pretty much whatever you want them to be. Facials are as the word implies, treatments carried out on your face. Underneath this umbrella comes a host of treatment styles which you can choose from based on your skin’s needs. To fill you in on some of the different types of facials around, I looked to some of my go-to’s. At SKNDOCTOR, a Super Glow Facial (£220) includes a resurfacing treatment, oxygen therapy and microcurrent aka everything you need to walk out looking more lifted and radiant. Meanwhile, at West Room Aesthetics, The Reset Facial Treatment (£225) is bespoke but the medical grade session typically includes a deep cleanse, light peel, masks and serums best suited for your skin. Also on the facial spectrum are Face Gym, with their Signature Scul...
The Toyota Sequoia mega-SUV soldiers on. Mostly unchanged from 2008, it receives a few minor updates for the 2021 model year. Along with a new Nightshade edition, the 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro trim replaces its available Army Green paint color with a bluish-green option called Lunar Rock. While it may be old, the Sequoia remains competitively priced with rivals. The 2021 Toyota Sequoia starts at $51,465, an increase of $120 over the previous model year. At this starting price, the Sequoia remains competitive with the far newer Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition, as well as the not-as-new Nissan Armada. See all 26 photos Opting for four-wheel drive adds $3,225 to any trim level, except the TRD Pro, which comes standard with the feature. Once again, all Sequoias are powered by a naturally...
The BMW M3 has been around for more than 30 years, and in that time there have been sedans, coupes, convertibles, and even a pickup truck. (Google that last one if you don’t believe us.) But one form the M3 has never taken? A factory-built BMW M3 Touring—that’s a station wagon in BMW-speak. That changes now. BMW has officially confirmed that G80-generation BMW M3 will get a wagon variant in addition to the four-door sedan and closely related two-door M4. Thankfully, it’s not April 1, and BMW appears to be serious about finally making an M3 wagon. This is the kind of news hardcore BMW fans will be getting their M-branded underpants in a bunch for. To be fair, we’re pretty excited by the idea of an M3 wagon, too. As of right now, the M3 will have the same 3.0-liter tw...

Here at Who What Wear, we are firm believers that good style shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. If we’re honest, some of the most fashion-savvy people we’ve encountered in our lives have been the most cost-conscious, as having to be more careful with your budget can often result in greater creativity and originality. Luckily, in the UK, we have a wide range of affordable offerings available to us, and brands are getting smarter about designing pieces that aren’t going to fall out of favour the following season. The likes of Arket and & Other Stories, in particular, have become known for their quality, expensive-looking designs that are indiscernible from their designer counterparts. Add to this the fact that the minimalist aesthetic has ruled over the past 12 mon...
Cast your mind back to the beginning of summer and you might remember the pop-culture phenomenon that was Harry Styles’ Watermelon Sugar video. The clip featured Styles amongst a group of revellers on the beach eating fruit while clad in an array of brightly coloured, vintage-printed swim and resort wear. The video also featured an extensive collection of crochet, much of which was worn by Harry himself. Now, whether or not you like to believe in the power of ‘The Harry Styles Effect’ it seems the popularity of crochet has risen this exponentially this summer following the on-trend video. In fact, according to fashion search engine, Lyst, searches from crochet clothing have risen by 85% since July. While specific searches for crochet dresses and shorts have also seen an ...

Since the pandemic began we’ve seen our lives change in so many ways. This goes without saying. One of the more minor but still noteworthy ways in which it’s changed is what we wear on a day-to-day basis. Even though I’ve worked from home for several years now, I’ve seen a shift in my wardrobe over the past few months. Specifically, it’s become less trend-driven and more streamlined and comfort-focused (for the time being, at least). My basics are in constant rotation, and when I do shop these days, more often than not its for something I could feasibly wear out in the world and at home. Sometimes I miss carrying handbags to places besides quick runs to the supermarket, or putting on a new pair of heels, or even wearing 100% cotton jeans, but practicality is p...
