Welcome to our newest editorial initiative, Who What Wear Spotlight, where we’ll be using our editorial platform, social following, and ad inventory to turn the spotlight on small businesses that need our support now more than ever. Each week, we’ll be highlighting a new fashion or beauty company. If you own a small brand and would like to be considered for the program, please apply here. This year has been challenging for the most established of fashion brands, and so small emerging labels have understandably taken a big hit—hence why we established our Spotlight series. The brands that launched during lockdown faced a situation they could have never imagined when planning for their launch, however Tacita Brown decided to go ahead and open her clothing brand Cro-Che in the mid...
Not unlike ‘dad’ sandals, Birkenstocks and crocs, flip flops are one of the previously-sidelined summer shoes that have experienced a high fashion makeover over the last year. Long disregarded by fashion-lovers due to their old school aesthetic or casual appearance, one-by-one these sandal styles have been welcomed-in by the world’s most stylish and in turn seen a dramatic rise to social media fame. While they never had the overtly ‘uncool’ associations of velcro sandal (oh how times have changed), for a long time flip flops were not considered a shoe worthy of any context other than the beach. That is, until the likes of The Row had their say, creating an oh-so elegant iteration in luxe leather. Of course, a leather sandal is hardly a revelation, however thi...
They often say opposites attract, and it’s not too uncommon to find that two things that should not go together somehow work. (Anyone who has ever mixed chocolate and popcorn while at the cinema should know what I’m talking about?) Traditionally, I wouldn’t say that summer dresses and boots have made the most sensible union, but recently, I have seen a few outfits that have managed to convince me otherwise. A strappy summer dress and a chunky winter boot may be items of clothing that are on complete opposite ends of the wardrobe spectrum, but I think this juxtaposition is part of the reason they work so well. From minidresses and knee highs to slip dresses and Chelsea boots, there are a few pairings that seem to make the most sense. Anna Sarlvit exemplified the first per...
Given the fact we’re currently in the midst of a summer heatwave, it might sound strange to be talking about boots. Though autumn is not too far away, and with it will come a whole host of new seasonal trends to explore and analyse. If the runways are any indication, over-the-knee boots will be the number one footwear hit of the season, as the shoe style was seen throughout the Autumn/Winter 2020 shows, spanning Proenza Schouler, Victoria Beckham, Bottega Veneta and Khaite. Often featuring an angular square toe and mid-level heel, this season we’ve seen the silhouette lenghten from year’s past when knee-high boots were ever-present. Heather Gramston, head of womenswear at Browns also agrees that over-the-knee boots are having a moment. Speaking of the Autumn/Winter 2020 ...
This is more than just a casual midcycle refresh of Bentley’s strong-selling SUV: Every single exterior panel of the 2021 Bentley Bentayga, apart from the roof and the doors, is new. So, too, is the infotainment system and all the switchgear and vents at the center of the dash. And although a quick read of the spec sheet suggests much of the hardware is carried over, our first drive of the 2021 Bentley Bentayga V8 reveals an SUV that feels subtly refined and improved throughout. The 542-hp V-8 is the first of what will be a three-model Bentayga lineup revised and refreshed for the 2021 model year. It will be joined in the first quarter of 2021 by the top-of-the-range, 627-hp, 12-cylinder Bentayga Speed, and in the second quarter by the Bentayga Hybrid, whose PHEV powertrain comprises a 335...
As hinted by a leaked order guide back in May, the 2021 Chevrolet Camaro receives new Wild Cherry Design packages. Now, thanks to GM, we have more official details on what those packages include apart from sharing a name with the 1970s band behind the song “Play That Funky Music” and the only good flavor of Pepsi. Wild Cherry Tintcoat is new to the Camaro’s exterior color palette for 2021, replacing the previous Garnet Red paint option. Those who want to get the most out of the new color can choose one of two Wild Cherry Design packages. For the Camaro LT and LZ trim levels there’s the Wild Cherry Design package 1, which includes special forged aluminum wheels in a polished finish with Camaro shield emblem center caps, black metallic hash mark stripes on the fenders...
This year marks my 10th anniversary, as it’s an entire decade of my false lash-wearing. At this point, I’d say we were going pretty steady. I made the decision to shift from layers of mascara to strip lashes because my makeup routine was taking way too long. Over the years I’ve mastered the craft and can apply my strip lashes in any given situation (and with one hand). Whether it’s on a plane, train or cramped in a pocket mirror. Bragging time over, but they’re really not as tricky to apply as you might think. It only requires practice, patience and good glue. I have my go-to batch of lashes that I always use, so I thought I’d try out some of the false lashes that are on the market, to see which ones are the best. It has been 10 years after all and my ...
Obviously, I love beauty products. Even when I’m not writing about them, I’m using, browsing and shopping for them. But there’s a whole lot of noise in the beauty industry, and it often feels like there are too many products demanding our attention. After trying probably thousands of products, I know what works for me and what doesn’t. I also believe that there shouldn’t be a product just for the sake of it—it needs to add something different or useful to the market. So while I have an extensive list of the products I’ll always use and go back to, there are some that simply just don’t work for me. You’re probably used to reading about beauty editors’ favourite beauty buys, so keep scrolling to find out the products I’ll never buy ...
Purchasing a new car can be an exciting, emotional, from-the-gut decision—and it can be a punch in the gut when you later discover how much it costs to insure or fuel that car, or how little it’s worth when it’s time to find new wheels. Ownership costs, rather than the mere transaction price, should be at the forefront of your purchasing criteria. Luckily for you, MotorTrend’s partner, IntelliChoice, has you covered. IntelliChoice’s 5-Year Cost to Own and Best Overall Value Awards IntelliChoice has been at the forefront of analyzing vehicle ownership costs for more than 30 years. Our Best Overall Value of the Year (BOVY) Awards recognize those mainstream vehicles whose total cost of ownership is significantly lower than expected compared to other models in the same class. These vehicles a...
The outgoing Audi S3’s understated appearance doesn’t quite match its strong power output and hearty exhaust note, but that all is fixed now that Audi has given the sporty compact a makeover. It will no longer be such an outward wallflower. With a full redesign, Audi has equipped the S3 with a more memorable exterior design to go with its even greater power. Dominating the new S3’s front end is a more assertive grille flanked by large air inlets. The updated headlights, available in matrix LED form, are connected by a thin vent stretches its way across the nose just above the grille. The new side profile reveals more fluid character lines running across the previously amorphous body sides. In the rear, you’ll find new taillights and a familiar quad exhaust setup. Early in the new S3&...
Holidays (or shall I say, les vacances), despite the relaxed connotations surrounding the concept, is a serious subject in France and no one does holidaying quite like the Parisians. Living in a country with one of the most amounts of paid holiday days in the world, the Parisians really know how to take advantage of it. I have never lived in a city before where it feels like almost the entire population migrates south for the month of August. And yet this is not to say that they don’t work hard the rest of the year, they just make the most of their time off and really know how to holiday. Even in this COVID-19 era, it’s been a hot topic of conversation. And with the Mediterranean on their doorstep, they are perfectly placed to fully profiter (enjoy) their time off, with multiple options in...
The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette has just been recalled for the first time because it’s front trunk might not open beyond the 10 minutes that pass after you’ve turned it off. According to a release by Chevy, the new ‘Vette fails to comply with S4.1 of Federal/Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 401, “Interior Trunk Release.” Essentially, the C8 enters a “sleep” mode 10 minutes after it’s been off and the electronic front trunk release may not work as a result. GM plans on fixing the problem via a wireless, over-the-air software update that will “(lower) the voltage required to wake the vehicle from the low power “sleep” mode.” This essentially means that the C8 will be able to unlatch the hood if the interior frunk release button is pressed even when the Corvette is in its sleep mode. Owne...
