For Argentine-Spanish artist Felipe Pantone, superstimulation is a creative space. For his new solo show presented by Underdogs Gallery in Lisbon, Pantone explores all that unfolds when all the time is screen time. In a vibrant interplay of color, light, and geometry, the artist brings his signature optical art into conversation with everyday technology, giving the glitch a new aesthetic meaning. For Pantone, color is a participatory practice. Featuring works across painting, sculpture, and installation, Perceptual Phenomena, Color Spaces, Structural Honesty creates the visual language for a reality that can’t seem to find its footing, capturing contemporary life in full flux. As each work stands as its own chromatic microcosm, Pantone keenly oscillates between various texture, graphics, an...
The Smithsonian's Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C., is set to showcase a unique pairing of works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Banksy. Opening later this month, the year-long exhibition will feature Basquiat’s 1982 painting “Boy and Dog in a Johnnypump,” reportedly purchased by hedge-fund manager Ken Griffin for over $100 million USD as per Artnet. The work will be displayed alongside Banksy’s reimagined version, which includes stenciled police officers frisking Basquiat's skeletal figure. Banksy originally created the piece outside London’s Barbican Centre to highlight the irony of a street artist being exhibited in a museum that typically erases graffiti. Both artists have a history of using public spaces for their work, with Basquiat emerging from the graffiti duo SAMO and Banksy’s guer...
Plato Gallery has lifted the veil on two concurrent solo exhibitions by artists Ákos Ezer and Maude Corriveau. While each show occupies its own aesthetic terrain, they make up two sides of the same coin. Together, the artists of Living Room Campout and Depth of Surface each present a unique interpretation of escape with splendor and elegance in hand. For Ezer’s first solo exhibition at the gallery, the Hungarian artist seeks to strike a balance. According to a recent gallery statement, Living Room Campout begs the question: “If we are constantly expected to play games, why not enjoy the ride and dance with the music set for us?” Ezer’s cast of brooding hipsters mediate the fluidity of social identity as each character morphs and transforms into the shape of their occupied role: wallflowers ...

The first comprehensive survey of Georgia O’Keeffe’s New York paintings is now on display at the Art Institute of Chicago through September 22, 2024. Created in a male-dominated art world that advised against her dark and angular approach, these paintings, drawings, and pastels of urban landscapes often remain overshadowed by her more well-known Southwestern scenes. The works of My New Yorks paved the path for O’Keeffe to become one of the most influential figures in modernist art. Before New Mexico, O’Keeffe made a home in Manhattan. The artist married photographer Alfred Stieglitz in 1924, and the two moved into an apartment on the 30th floor of Midtown’s Shelton Hotel. Life in the then tallest residential building in the world gave her wings for magnificent perspective. My New Yorks envis...
American artist Josh Smith has worked with Case Studyo on a new ceramic sculptured entitled IN THE DARKEST DESPAIR A SPARK OF HOPE LIES WITHIN US.Based in New York City, Smith first rose to prominence in the 2000s through vibrant paintings that incorporated his own name as both a signature and conceptual framework to conflate the boundaries between authorship and artistic production. Over the past two decades, Smith has veered more towards abstraction, taking recognizable motifs — fish, skeletons, trees — and distorting their image in a way to emphasize and celebrate the act of painting, rather than the usual pursuit for perfection. In Smith's latest edition, he casts the grim reaper in white porcelain with hand-painted black embellishments that spell out the artist's name. The sculpture st...
