Austrian artist Christian Ludwig Attersee has opened his first large-scale exhibition in New York City, with a career-defining lineup of abstract, surrealist and pop artworks that span from the 1960s to the present. Nestled inside Isabelle Bscher’s Galerie Gmurzynska on the Upper East Side, the showcase, titled Attersee: Beautiful Like His Paintings, looks to pay tribute to the artist's historical influence, specifically that over Post-War painting.Born in Bratislava, Slovakia, Attersee first discovered his love for the arts in his youth, when he moved to Austria and began creating comics at Lake Attersee (hence his surname). The Brooklyn Museum's “The Book of HOV" tribute exhibition to the city's very own hometown hero JAY-Z saw immense success, doing commendable numbers – hosting over 500,000 visitors and adding over 22,000 new card accounts – as well as extending its run time through December. Inès Longevial's paintings transcend self-portraiture. For the French artist, paint is the primary means to transcribe her fleeting emotions, much like one writes down an entry on their phone or in a diary. On view at Almine Rech London, Pourfendue (split in French) comprises of a series of new paintings that she created to reflect on the theme of duality. Similar to her last show Perchée at Ketabi Bourdet, Longevial took inspiration from the novels of Italian writer and journalist, Italo Calvino.
