Koji Yamaguchi to Reveal New Paintings at Upcoming “Surface” Solo Exhibition

Later this month, Koji Yamaguchi will be presenting his latest solo exhibition at On Sundays’ LightSeed Gallery in Tokyo.The Japanese artist is known for his dreamscape-like paintings and style that stems from his penchant for skateboarding. In Yamaguchi’s artwork, mundane landscapes and cityscapes are imbued with a touch of impressionism through the use of flowing forms and blurred-out finishes.“Surface” will include a body of new oil paintings on linen. Apart from being the founder of acclaimed studio, HORT, the German artist and designer recurrently explores some of the cartoons legendary cast, by humorously juxtaposing them with figures such as ancient Greek poet, Homer, and Leonardo da Vinci's Mona Lisa. The latter artwork served as the inspiration for König's latest screen print. Aptly titled LISA VS. LISA, the top half of the print features Lisa Simpson's angular noggin, while the bottom gives way to Mona Lisa — both of which are created in a halftone effect.
