Since its founding in 1960, Pace Gallery has always held innovation as the core principle that dictates which artists and exhibitions the gallery curates. Over the past seven decades, a number of legendary figures have filled its halls, from Sol Lewitt, Hank Willis Thomas and Lee Ufan to Mary Corse, Agnes Martin and James Turrell. Last year, FACT Magazine and 180 Studios took London by storm through an audio-visual experience dubbed Future Shock, which pitted audiences in an immersive display of projection mapping, AI datasets and electronic music. The title of the show was eerily inspired by American futurologist Alvin Toffler’s 1970s book of the same name, which anticipated the stress and disorientation ushered in by technological age. Over the weekend, multi-disciplinary artist Shaniqwa Jarvis debuted her solo exhibition at Lost Angeles-based CONTROL Gallery.Entitled “Everywhere You Go There You Are,” the show comprises a new body of work that redefines Jarvis’ concept of “home,” while simultaneously exploring the duality between confinement and the sense of belonging.
