Qi Zhuo is a Chinese-born, Paris-based artist who uses sculpture as a way to comment and repair cultural misunderstandings. On the surface, his sculptures, made using glass, ceramics and various other materials, may seem humorous on first sight. But upon closer inspection, these spiritual works begin to reveal complex undertones that hark to notions of the "other", both in the sense of Qi reflecting on his life away from home and reinterpreting his own heritage through a foreign lens. On view at Perrotin in Shanghai is a new solo exhibition in which Qi explores the frailty of the human body. Emblematic of past works, he often sources various Buddhist sculptures from the Northern and Southern Dynasties (386–581) of China and reinvigorates them through blown glass bubbles that act as an auxi...

Sasha Ferré has spent much of her career visualizing what is often unseen to the naked eye. Think microorganisms and processes that occur in the tiny crevices of our homes and the natural world. Born in Paris and now based in London, the French artist often works on the floor of her studio, spreading the canvas out like a flower bed as she applies oil sticks directly to the surface. Like a jazz musician riding out a solo, her work is improvisational — allowing intuition to dictate the course of each piece.Unit London is playing host to a new solo exhibition by Ferré entitled Morphogenesis. As her first show with the gallery, the space has been transformed into an imaginary landscape where Ferré paints a poignant meditation on humans' relationship with the natural world. “In the context of ...
KAWS just won a major court case against several Singapore-based companies who have been counterfeiting his work for the past few years. First reported by Artnet News, the U.S. District Court has awarded the American artist $900,000 USD on May 2 after finding Dylan Joy An Leong Yi Zhi and several companies he's been working with called The Penthouse Theory and The Penthouse Collective, guilty of reproducing KAWS' COMPANION figure and numerous other works, that together, would have a collective retail value of $63m USD. Hailed by KAWS' attorney Aaron Richard Golub as “a very important international case,” court documents revealed that the artist sent a cease-and-desist letter to Leong back in 2020 for creating hundreds of products that “chill the market for his original work because purchas...
