Sony and the World Photography Organisation have announced the winners for its annual World Photography Awards for 2023. The program began 16 years ago as a way to celebrate photographers of all statures — from the youth level to seasoned professionals. Winners receive $25,000 USD, Sony digital imaging equipment and will have their work featured in the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition and book.Nearly half a million images were entered in this year's competition, ranging portraiture, landscape, sport, nature and wildlife, as well as still-life, travel, street photography and more. Banksy had just put the finishing touches on his latest artwork on an abandoned farmhouse in in Kent, England, when shortly after completion, a construction crew demolished the building. Entitled Morning is Broken, the work featured a silhouetted cat and a boy with arms outstretched opening two dilapidated sheets of iron, which were shaped like curtains.The elusive street artist confirmed the artwork on Instagram yesterday, March 16, but it's unclear if he knew of the house's fate. Kehinde Wiley has been working extensively in his hometown of Los Angeles over the past few years — from a statue commission in Crenshaw to a curatorial exhibition with Jeffrey Deitch. To follow, the LA native is showcasing a new body of work entitled Colorful Realm at Roberts Projects on La Brea.
