Colorado police are seeking the public’s help to find five artworks that were stolen last month from a delivery truck in the city. The theft occurred on the night of December 14 just outside a hotel around the 5300 block of South Boulder Road, as the truckers stopped to rest from a cross-country voyage. The next morning, the drivers found the padlocks protecting the trunk broken off and the artwork and several tools missing. According to a release by the City of Boulder, the artwork stolen included a bullfight painted by Elaine de Kooning, Taos Pueblo by Joseph Henry Sharp, Laguna Pueblo by Ernest Marin Hennings, Burnett’s Barn by Jane Freilicher and Taos Pueblo at Night by Eanger Irving Couse. Together, the paintings have an estimated worth of over $400,000 USD. Anyone with information re...
Building on its 70 percent sustainable prototype tire unveiled last year, at CES 2023 this year, Goodyear returned with an improved design. The new creation is constructed with 90 percent sustainable materials and has already passed Department of Transportation testing, meaning they can already be used on the road. The environmentally friendly mix features organic and inorganic sources like soybean oil, rice husk silica, post-consumer polyester, and bio-renewable pine tar resins. Coming together, the tires offer lower rolling resistance than traditional tires on the market now for both better gas mileage and longer electric vehicle ranges. “Last January, we announced a 70% sustainable-material tire, and while we celebrated this accomplishment, we knew it set the foundation for us to ...
Javier Calleja had a busy 2022 filled with collaborations and exhibitions — from a solo show at Almine Rech, a hybrid bottle sculpture with NANZUKA, to a capsule collection at Hypebeans in Hong Kong and Seoul. The Spanish artist is ringing in the new year with a new sculpture entitled NO WINGS TO FLY. Made in conjunction with AllRightsReserved, Calleja depicts one of his signature wide-eyed characters as he optimistically gets ready to soar. “To fly was always a dream of mine as a child and this is why NO WINGS TO FLY is mimicking birds wings or feathers with his outstretched fingers,” said the artist in an interview with the Hong Kong-based creative studio. NO WINGS TO FLY is an edition of 888 made in mixed media, vinyl and crystal glass. The sculpture sizes at roughly 11 x 10 x 7-inches ...
The British Museum has confirmed that it is in discussion with Greece on returning several of the Parthenon Marbles. A report first published by the Telegraph detailed how senior Greek ministers had met with the institution’s chairman George Osborne for over a year and a deal to return the artwork was drawn up as part of a “cultural exchange.” Another Greek official, however, spoke with the Guardian this week stating that “no such deal” has taken place. The Parthenon Marbles, also known as the Parthenon Sculptures or Elgin Marbles, are a series of reliefs and architectural metopes that were once placed at the temple of Athena (the Parthenon) on the Acropolis in Athens. Built between 447BC and 432BC, the marble works recount ceremonial processions to the Greek goddess Athena, war scenes suc...
When it comes to adding new items to our wardrobe, none go through the same level of scrutiny that we put coats through. We want them to be versatile, look good, feel good and elevate whatever we choose to wear underneath. That’s a lot. Throw adhering to a budget into the mix, and it might sound like you’re setting yourself up for failure—that it would be impossible to find a coat that ticks all of these boxes. Thankfully, I’ve always liked a challenge. Call it stubbornness or overconfidence, but I was sure I could find at last a handful of coats that fit the above brief—and, when I put my mind to it, I found 24 of them, which I’ve outlined for you below. My edit features coats that understood the assignment. Chic without being bank account–busting, ...
Bright colours are all well and good but, in my humble opinion, nothing makes your outfits more fun or unique to you than prints. For the longest time I’ve avoided anything too patterned, choosing instead to focus on building a wardrobe of classics. However, in doing so, I’ve lost much of the joy that should go hand-in-hand with fashion. As such, I’ve made it something of a style resolution for the year to invest in some playful printed items to balance out my current collection of basics. Handily, I just so happened to be given the task of finding the best print trends of 2023, meaning I was able to do my own sartorial research on the clock. For this, I immersed myself in Who What Wear’s extensive library of spring/summer 2023 runway imagery, spending hours p...

Embrace Boston is preparing to unveil The Embrace, a massive 45,000-pound, 20-foot-high and 40-foot-wide bronze sculpture crafted by artist Hank Willis Thomas and revered design firm MASS Design Group. The Embrace will land inside Boston Common, America’s oldest public park, as one of the largest memorials championing racial equity in more than 30 years. The sculpture’s design, which is five years in the making, was selected from 126 submissions by a committee of teachers, visual artists, curators and community members. Unless you’re part of a microscopic global percentage of ultra-wealthy people, Taylor Swift‘s cat has a lot more money than you — and it’s not even close. In a recent report by All About Cats, the 33-year-old pop star’s fan-favorite feline Olivia Benson ranked as the world’s third richest pet, with a whopping estimated net worth of $97 million. The ranking was created based on Instagram analytics, with many of the top-earning furry friends having climbed the ranks of wealth through fame on social media. For A-list animals such as Olivia, however, involvement in outside projects was taken into account. “Olivia has found success outside of the world of Instagram influencing,” the listing read. “The Scottish fold earned her fortune starring alongside her owner in several music videos, has cra...
Kunsthalle Basel will play host to a new solo exhibition by emerging Chinese artist LuYang. Born in Shanghai and now based in Tokyo, LuYang conflates various cultures, such as anime, Buddhism and video games, to create video installations, paintings and performance-based artwork that examines the human condition. As her first solo show in Switzerland, LuYang Vibratory Field transforms each room into a portal into the artist’s mind. Emblematic of her career, each of the videos showcases LuYang as she designs herself into manga-inspired characters, spiritual beings and future-dystopian robots that are not just intriguing and grotesque, but reflect a deeper exploration into topics such as life, death and reincarnation. “I don’t like being called an artist – I’m more like an entertainer,” the ...
After sitting vacant for nine years, development is set to start on the plot that once housed an iconic U.K. nightspot. Wigan Pier, once a rough-and-tumble venue synonymous with the boom of the industrial revolution, went on to become a popular hub for ’90s rave culture after the formation of Wigan Pier Nightclub. However, in the years since, new development of the area has displaced much of its former industrial roots. Once bustling with the sounds of bounce and house music, the club closed in 2014 and much of it was demolished soon thereafter. But the location where the club stood has been particularly quiet. Plans were set in 2019 to escalate development of the location into a wedding venue, microbrewery, food hall and residential property for eight townhomes, according to&nb...
It’s time to talk spring/summer 2023 fashion trends! Spanning four cities, over 350 designer showcases and more celebrity model moments than you can shake a roll of body tape at, ask anyone in attendance, and they’ll tell you that Fashion Month was back at its biggest and brightest for spring/summer 2023. Having pivoted from perching on the front row to sitting in front of our laptops (cup of tea in hand) for the past few seasons, we expected some designers to entirely forgo the frivolity of “real-life” fashion shows in favour of the digital experience. This, however, was not the case; in fact, not a single virtual invitation landed in my inbox. Instead, with a 45% increase in shows compared to autumn/winter, designers appeared to come to the collective ag...
