But why are some products so much cheaper than others? Product prices are dictated by things like quality of ingredients, packaging supply chains, research and development, and marketing costs. But by reducing marketing budgets, keeping packaging minimal, and utilising ingredients that are already tried, tested, and proven to work, brands can keep costs low and pass on the savings to you. “Some brands can also afford to sell their products at lower prices simply because they can afford to produce a large amount of stock,” says esthetician and skin expert Katie Onyejekwe. “It’s always worth remembering that brands can position themselves as luxury and charge a fortune for what is a basic formula housed in fancy packaging with a large marketing budget, but it all comes down to formula ...
Long ignored by art market elites, Ernie Barnes posthumously had a watershed moment this past May. His seminal 1976 painting, The Sugar Shack, shattered expectations when it sold at Christie’s 20th Century auction for $15.3m USD — nearly 76 times its initial estimate. “For certain segments of America, it’s more famous than the Mona Lisa,” said Bill Perkins, a Houston-based energy trader who placed the winning bid. Running concurrent to Frieze Los Angeles in February, UTA Artist Space will host a new exhibition entitled Ernie Barnes: Where Music and Soul Live — showcasing 30 of his dynamic paintings, including several pieces belonging to private collections that have never been seen by the public. Before Barnes pursued art full-time, however, he was a guard in pro football. Having play...

Trouble is brewing for JoJo Siwa and ex-girlfriend Avery Cyrus. The former Dance Moms star recently claimed that she had been “used” for internet fame by someone she thought she was “in love” with, harsh words presumably aimed at Cyrus, who revealed only days prior that she and Siwa had broken up after dating briefly. On Monday (Dec. 19), JoJo’s mom Jessalynn Siwa posted a video to her own Instagram Stories of her daughter talking heatedly. In the video, the “Boomerang” singer paces back and forth as Jessalynn asks, “Why are you mad?” “Because I got used!” JoJo responds. When asked by her mom what exactly she was used for for, JoJo keeps going. “For views and for clout,” she continues, still pacing, though never naming Cyrus. “I got tricked into being told I was loved and I got f–king...
Before I became a beauty editor, I exclusively shopped at the drugstore for all my beauty needs. I’ll now admit that my job has made me into a bit of a product snob, but I still have some tried and true favorites that I’ll always pick up whenever I find myself perusing the aisles of Target or CVS. Although I’ve used a few great budget-friendly skincare products over the years, I’ve actually found the most success with drugstore hair products. Celebrity stylists are with me on this one. They have a few choice hair products they’ll always grab at the drugstore, too. To find out a few of their picks and a few of my favorites for curly hair, keep scrolling! You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dati...
The last time ballet flats were really and truly in fashion it was de riguer to wear them the skinniest of skin-tight jeans. This time around, things are looking very different—the complete opposite, in fact. Instead of drainpipe denim with pumps, we’re looking at wide-leg trousers as being the partner of choice for fashion’s best-dressed. Only on the weekend did Alexa Chung make that point (pointe?) incredibly clear when she stepped out for dinner in Knightsbridge, London wearing a pair of slouchy black tailored pants with a leather coat, fuzzy scarf and diamanté Prada bag alongside simple black ballet pumps. She was, of course, sensible enough to know that a pair of ballet flats in mid-December is a risky move, and added some red socks to keep warm. While...
Let’s be honest here: Not all of us will be going out this New Year’s Eve. After lockdown left us with no option but to stay in we got accustomed to scaling back on outings, and although this year allows us a return to the full scale New Year Eve party, not all of us want to go out and about. There’s something great about getting dressed up to stay in, and spending the night with your nearest and dearest in your own home is even better than ever. No bar queues, no £££ tickets, and no waiting for a cab home. So, if you are between ideas, there are a lot of perks to choosing to be propped up in your kitchen or on the sofa instead of a busy soirée. NYE feels like that last opportunity to get dressed up in something sparkly and festive. I appreciate this sounds...

Amoako Boafo unveiled a new multi-purpose art space in his hometown of Accra, Ghana. Designed by Ghanaian-British architect David Adjaye, dot.ateliers will serve as a hybrid studio, gallery, cafe and library. “I hope the community finds it to be a space they can be proud of and engage with, whether they are participating or are part of the audience,” said Boafo in an interview with Cultured Magazine. The title of the building is a witty nod to how a dot both ends and starts a sentence. “After a dot is a whole new beginning and a universe of possibilities, which are made possible by the previous sentence or the past,” Boafo added. The artist understands the importance of having a community center where the only limits to creativity is one’s own imagination. “Growing up I longed for a space ...

Douglas Gordon is a Scottish multimedia artist best-known for his meditations on time, collective memory and ethical questions that probe proverbial ‘rights and wrongs’. Working across photo, video and text-based installations, Gordon has been the recipient of numerous awards over the past 25 years, including winning the Turner Prize in 1996. His latest solo exhibition is solely dedicated to neon signage. Having first explored the medium through a 1998 installation outside a Glaswegian pub, Gordon has always been drawn to the utility of neon signage and its place in the history of art — from the work of Joseph Kosuth to Dan Flavin. Housed at Gagosian‘s Davies Street location in London, Neon Ark presents a series of gnomic text signs that Gordon sources from various corners of pop culture, ...
Much of the world is still trying to make sense of the combination of madness and brilliance that was the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final. It was a match that reminded football fans, old and new, why the sport is beloved around the world and like a proper blockbuster, fielded a number of player-personalities that rivaled even the best films and actors. The star leads, Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi, were nothing short of incredible — showcasing what many now believe the greatest footballer who ever lived against his heir apparent. To keep the championship celebrations ringing, acclaimed artist Kimou Meyer, aka Grotesk, released a new Messi-inspired print for football fans to forever cherish on their walls. Set against a black background, the Swiss-born, Portland-based artist reinterprets the sta...
