Each painting in the show is either titled Mujer or Mujeres (Spanish for woman or women), in which the artist utilizes her choice muse as a way to explore her daily experiences. Although her forms are typically exaggerated in form, the abstraction seen in these latest paintings mark an evolution in BanBan’s approach to line, color and composition, as well as reflecting her transition to using oil paints, oil sticks and charcoal. Halloween may be over, but a new cabinet sculpture by Romanian artist Serban Ionescu will keep spooky season hanging on walls all-year round. Made in collaboration with Case Studyo, the artwork was inspired by a series of masks that Ionescu once observed hanging at his great uncle Nelu’s house. “I wanted to make a masked cabinet in the true essence of the mask, which is, from the folk mask to the rubber halloween mask, meant to carry an element of horror in order to scare off evil spirits,” said the artist in a statement. Late last month, London’s Metropolitan Police received a call that a woman had sat face-first unconscious inside Laz Emporium — the art gallery owned by Banksy‘s former agent, Steve Lazarides. Hannah Blakemore, the gallery attendant who had been working that day had closed the store and gone up to make a cup of tea, when suddenly, she came down to see the front door unhinged with two cops staring confused. The passed out woman happened to just be a mannequin, or rather, a sculpture entitled Krisitna. Lazarides commissioned American artist Mark Jenkins to create the piece as a strange portrayal of his sister who had once passed out nose deep in a bowl of soup. Banksy To Sell 50 Rare Rat Screen Prints To Raise Funds for Ukraine
Following the confirmation of seven new murals in Ukraine, Banksy has announced the release of 50 new unique screen prints with all proceeds made from the sale going directly to the people of Ukraine. In partnership with the Legacy of War Foundation, Banksy announced the project on Instagram alongside images of the pieces which depict a white rat scratching out the word “FRAGILE” on what appears to be a cardboard box. Each print will be signed and numbered and will go for £5,000 GBP. With each sale, the funds will go to purchasing vehicles to evacuate the citizens of Ukraine from the war-torn country, while also providing heating to communities facing a harsh and difficult winter.
