PSA: The Perfect Zara Coat We’ve Been Thinking About All Year Is Back in Stock

I already know what you’re thinking, and yes, this winter is shaping up to be a particularly cold one. I happen to love dressing for cold weather (nothing beats hunkering down and hibernating in cosy layers of cashmere and wool), but when you do inevitably have to leave the house, it can be tricky finding “the one,” that elusive winter coat that looks good and stays warm. Well, that is until now.  Zara has got a track record for designing some of the most covetable and expensive-looking pieces on the high street, and although sought-after pieces can sell out as quickly as they land, fortunately for us the best sellers are often reinstated the following year, and one of the biggest hits from last winter is back: the Double-Faced Shor...

Christie’s Is Auctioning Furniture Once Owned by Marie Antoinette

Christie’s upcoming “Exceptional Sale”, as the name implies, is filled with rare objects that date all the way back to Roman times. The Paris edition, in particular, will spotlight works from 18th Century France, including two furnishings once owned by Queen Marie Antoinette. The first piece, a commode crafted in 1770 by Pierre Macret, demonstrated “one of the finest exponents of the façon de la Chine in France — or indeed in Europe,” according to Christies, adding, its “tôle-dorée doors, curved like rolling waves, feature bucolic chinoiserie landscapes: craggy Asiatic mountains, trees forked like lightning, standing figures in flowing robes.” The second item, an Etruscan-style armchair, was made roughly 20 years later as the Queen sought to refurnish her apartments at Versailles. The remo...

Watch How the 2023 Honda Civic Type R Is Made

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R is almost here, and to keep up the suspense and momentum the Japanese marque has revealed how it makes its formidable hot sedan. So far, we know that the 2023 Type R comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that’s good for 315 HP, 310 pound-feet of torque, and an expected 0-60 MPH time of around 5.5 seconds thanks to this car coming with a six-speed manual gearbox complete with rev-matching. However, little else is known about the upcoming JDM machine. Now, we’re invited inside Honda‘s Yorii facility to see how it puts the Civic Type R together. Between shots of it racing around a track to workers assembling engine components and body parts, the video highlights every nut and bolt that goes into creating the automaker’s ne...

Tom Sachs Publishes New Book With Rizzoli

Tom Sachs’s rocket-inspired exhibition Spaceships is currently approaching its final days at Acquavella Galleries in New York. For those unable to attend, however, the artist worked with acclaimed publisher Rizzoli on a new catalog documenting the experience. While the show is filled with many different Spaceships, visually speaking, Sachs subverts the meaning of the word by exploring a spaceship as nothing more than a vessel for transportation. Under this framework, a guillotine, he argues, can also be viewed as a spaceship that transports one from life to death; similarly, a cathedral elevates one from the body to a higher state of being. Printed in Italy, the book is limited to just 3,600 copies worldwide, features a foreword written by Alexander Acquavella, along with essays by Thomas ...

6 Trouser-and-Shoe Combinations Every Polished Dresser Uses In Winter

Personally, I don’t know where this year has gone. It seems like just last week we had rounded up our autumn buys, and now our editors are busy compiling gift guides for the Christmas season. As we’re coming to the final months of 2022, I looked back at the most important trends of the year, and none stood out as much as wide-leg trousers. The oversized silhouette has taken hold of the fashion scene. From baggy jeans, to puddle pants, so many micro-trends have resulted from the power of the wide-leg trouser. And with a new year on the horizon, there’s no sign that this trend will be going anywhere. If you’ve already embraced wide-leg trousers into your wardrobe, you’ll understand how versatile they truly are—perfect for wearing to work, evenings out ...

Michelle Obama Wore the Denim Trend Everyone’s Replacing Skinny Jeans With

During Michelle Obama’s eight years as our first lady, we didn’t get to see her in too many casual outfits—she was much likelier to be photographed in sophisticated Jason Wu dresses. In the years since then, I’ve been reveling in seeing her true personal style shine through. I mean, who could forget those Balenciaga sparkly boots? For her latest outfit, she experimented with the denim trend that’s been surging in popularity: baggy, wide-leg cargo jeans, which are pretty much the antithesis of skinny jeans.  Obama wore Ganni’s Rinse Denim Fitted Blazer (£295) and Angi Jeans (£215) to an event in Washington, D.C., promoting her new book, The Light We Carry. I realise I might sound like a broken record at this point, b...

How to Up Your Party-Dressing Game With Just 4 Expensive-Looking Buys

With summer a distant memory and a crisp autumn giving way to a chilly winter, the only thing we’re thinking about more than what to add to our Christmas list is what we’re going to wear to the host of events steadily filling our calendars. Between all of the dinners, drinks, parties and events, there are plenty of opportunities to dress up and head out in the next few months, and nothing beats the winter blues like an exciting new outfit inspired by all of the sparkle and celebration of the festive period. When it comes to party dressing, there are always the fail-safe options (like the little black dress or the camisole top), but making occasionwear feel fresh and new is a different challenge in itself. So if, like us, you’re tired of the same old tropes (and yes, we do...

James Jean Taps Into the Art of Tapestry With ‘White Tiger’

Gallery All has announced the release of Taiwanese-American artist, James Jean’s latest artwork, White Tiger — a custom rug that spans the width of 250cm x 173cm in height and is composed of New Zealand wool and Chinese silk. With White Tiger, James Jean conveys a different side of his artistic approach. Although his artworks are often experimental and come in a range of mediums, the White Tiger is a piece that can be touched by the audience, thus offering an interactive experience that brings the viewer closer to Jean’s dream-like world. Not dissimilar to Jean’s other artworks, the White Tiger is presented in the artist’s hyper-stylized aesthetics and expressionistic, dream-like fantasies. The elements presented in the piece also represent auspiciousness, good fortune, strength, and vital...

5 Popular Shoe Trends the Fashion Crowd Is Wearing With Dresses

As a shoe lover, I happen to think that shoes are what really make a dress. Anyone can just throw on a cute dress but how you style it is what really makes or breaks it. We’re in a bit of an anything-goes place in fashion, but that doesn’t mean that certain shoes don’t just look cooler than others with dresses, and the fashion crowd is very much aware of this. I combed through Instagram for some great examples of the shoes I’ve been seeing the fashion crowd wear over and over with all types of dresses this season, and there are some fun ones. You might already own most of these trends but just in case, I found some excellent options for you to shop and pair with your own dresses. (And if you want to shop for expensive-looking dresses as well, Emily Dawes h...
