Christie’s Hong Kong is withdrawing its much-anticipated Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton from its Autumn Auctions, slated to occur between November 25 to December 3. The specimen named Shen, was expected to fetch between $15 million to $25 million USD at auction, but due to recent questions raised by experts regarding the number of replica bones used, Christie’s has now noted that the it may require “further study.” Edward Lewine, a spokesperson for Christie’s said in a statement, “After consultation with the consignor of the Tyrannosaurus rex scheduled for sale on 30 November in Hong Kong, Christie’s has decided to withdraw the lot. The consignor has now decided to loan the specimen to a museum for public display.” Shen was marketed as the first skeleton of the T.rex species ever to hit the au...

You only need to have a quick scan of a tube platform or any shopping centre to see that midi dresses have become an easy uniform for British women. They are a reliable outfit in one and make you feel polished, even on those mornings when you only have five minutes to get ready. In winter, they can be a little trickier to style, however, because you have to think about the length of your coat, whether it goes with a couple of layers of knitwear and what boots you can wear with said dress. There are five dress trends this winter that make all these styling questions a little easier, and you’re going to see a lot of this month and beyond. If comfort is what you are into, then look no further than the jumper dress, which now comes in so many stylish iterations, dispelling the ...
If there’s one thing I know, it’s dresses. My wardrobe is full of them, and I wear them 99.9% of the time. I’ve always struggled with casual dressing (long-time Who What Wear readers will have repeatedly read about my ongoing struggle with denim—sorry to be a bore!), so easy, good-looking frocks are my most-trusted fashion staple. I have affordable dresses that I wear each and every week. I have special, more expensive versions that come out for important occasions or big meetings. I have those in-between, mid-priced options that bridge the gap between casual and fancy days. I own styles that are ultra summery and best for heatwaves and holiday packing, but I’ve also got a fair number of clever, trans-seasonal styles that can work layered up and with tights in winte...
If (like me) you’re the type of person who considers a fragrance wardrobe switch-up just as essential as a regular wardrobe switch-up, now’s the time when you’ll most likely be putting aside summer’s bright, zesty florals in favour of deeper, cosier winter perfumes. Cold winter days call for warm, rich scents such as Maison Margiela’s By the Fireplace or & Other Stories’ Midnight Encore, which lend themselves to the season of glamorous parties, brisk walks and cosy dinners. I naturally gravitate to warm, woody notes like cedarwood, musk, pepper and amber all year round, so it will come as no surprise to anyone that winter is my favourite season to experiment with scent, and I will literally not leave home without it. In my mind, finishing off my outfit choice with a spritz of ...
You know those pieces in your closet that you can always rely on? The ones that you wear over and over again that act as the building blocks to countless outfits? For me, those pieces are almost exclusively neutrals—items in various shades of grey, cream, camel, and brown that can be mixed and matched with virtually anything. This rings especially true for winter items when you’re layering different fabrics and textures and want to ensure your look feels cohesive. They also always look luxe (regardless of the price tag) so I just feel more polished. All that to say that I’m a true believer in investing in neutral shades of everything—from bags to sweaters to boots to coats. Pieces in this colour palette are equal parts versatile and...
We’re nearing the end of 2022, which means our calendars are filling up with Christmas bashes, candlelit get-togethers and festive dinner parties. Pass the mulled wine, please. I don’t know about you, but I consider partywear to be one of the most exciting sartorial categories. It’s always nice to depart from one’s everyday uniform (for me, it’s jeans and a jumper) to get a little more dressed up. That being said, I’m reluctant to spend a lot of money on going-out attire; I prefer to invest in items I’ll wear regularly, and I always keep to a strict budget on the partywear front to ensure I don’t overspend or waste money. This is what led me to Marks and Spencer‘s website, where I was pleasantly surprise...
That’s not to say, however, that Rosie Huntington-Whiteley only ever wears well-known, high-end designers. Through her Instagram feed, I discovered brands I didn’t previously know. Marcéla London, for one, has become one of my favourites. She’s also a fan of Bec & Bridge, the Australian label I’ve bought a couple of my most-worn dresses from. She’s known to find the chicest-looking pieces from Zara, too. So, naturally, when looking for inspiration for my winter wardrobe, I head straight to Huntington-Whiteley’s social media and begin saving down my favourite looks. During this process, I’ve quickly identified the key pieces that make up her autumn/winter capsule wardrobe. Because I try to be a nice person, I’ve decided to share them with you below. Scroll on to see...
A special top can pull looks together and elevate a pair of jeans to new heights. When I envisage nice tops, my mind goes straight to contemporary designer Christopher Esber. His sophisticated designs have taken the fashion world by storm. I was in awe of his summer designs and as we transition into winter dressing his slinky styles continue to dominate. There’s been an influx of sultry tops just in time for the party season – whether that’s corsets, asymmetric styles or knitted variations with exposed necklines. These are especially great for those of us who prefer jeans and nice top outfits to dresses. Evenings are also an opportunity to wear lighter textiles and silks that are soft to the touch. I also consider classics part of my nice-top repertoire. Although high-neck ...
If it wasn’t already clear from the icy winds and dark afternoons, we’ve fully crossed into winter territory. After spending the majority of autumn trying to navigate transitional dressing and fluctuating temperatures, I’m actually happy to welcome the consistency of winter. Winter is cold and wet, but at least we know where we stand. And, best of all, a new season means new shopping, and that’s something I happen to do best. Every few months as we look at the season ahead and pull out the key trends that we think are worth noting, they usually fall into two different categories–the classic, wardrobe staples that have come back around for another year, and the buzzy new trends that will change the way we dress for the next year (at least). This year ...
Catherine, the Princess of Wales has once again found a high-street gem. In recent years, she has become known for wearing expensive-looking pieces from the high street, and her appearance yesterday was no exception. Whilst visiting a children’s centre in Middlesex on Wednesday, Kate selected a khaki knitted dress from much-loved high-street brand Mango, and it’s only £36. Though, I think it looks significantly more expensive than that. True to her elegant and put-together style, Kate has a way of spotting premium-looking styles and is always on-trend for the season. Right now, we’re at the crossroads between autumn and winter, where cosy styles like knit dresses are taking centre stage. The best part of this knit-midi ensemble is that it ca...
When it comes to dressing for a first date, there’s a general rule of thumb I think always works. First is the art of subtle elevation. Much like the no-makeup makeup look, there are little details that’ll quietly elevate a look, like jewellery, a plush bag or tailoring with strappy heels. Second is comfort. If you’re not a heel wearer, opt for something you feel relaxed in. Slip-on flats are equally chic. Dressing for all eventualities is a form of empowerment. Of course, the type of date has a bearing on your outfit choice, as you’re less likely to turn up to a picnic in 10-inch stilettos. (Although, if that’s what you fancy, wear them with pride!) There’s an evident playfulness with this season’s most famed pieces—cut-outs, minis and ankle-strap heels—so there are va...
