Here at Who What Wear, we love to talk about wardrobe classics. Knits, denim, amazing boots…there are some items that are just born to be part of a capsule wardrobe. But on my recent Instagram scroll I discovered that there was one such item that doesn’t get nearly as much air time, and that’s sweatshirts. From slogan emblazoned to embroidered logos and vintage washed out vibes to hoodies and cropped silhouettes, it’s true that the best sweatshirts come in all shapes and sizes. There’s something about a slogan sweatshirt that just instantly pulls a cosy autumn look together. Whether it’s the iconic image of Diana running errands around town in her oversized number or the myriad of influencers we’ve spotted on instagram in slogan styles, the ob...
As we steadily approach the start of winter, it’s easy to feel like you’ve tried every single outfit combination in your wardrobe. With a reliable rotation of the same jeans and trousers being worn with various pairs of boots throughout the last few months, day-to-day dressing can seem like a repetitive task all to often. Thankfully, with fashion weeks in Copenhagen, New York and Paris all having taken place in the last couple of months, we’ve got plenty of new autumn/winter style inspiration, and we won’t let a little bit of inclement weather stop us from having fun with our outfits. From innovative new formulas to tried-and-tested classic combinations, some of our favourite influencers, fashion editors and street s...
Chic leggings. Yes, those two words that can go together. Leggings previously fell into the loungewear or gym kit categories exclusively, worn only for errand running in or for weekends hibernating at home, but I’m here to tell you that these hardworking heroes deserve a new lease of life this season. I’ll admit, they’re pretty much my favourite wardrobe staple right now, thanks to the myriad ways to dress them up or down. Plus, we all know how comfy they are! Wear them everywhere from a night out (see Camille and Marilyn for inspo) with heels or knee high boots and a sensational jacket. Or, use them as the base for the perfect weekend look, with cosy layers, chunky footwear and a coat. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking f...
“I definitely think it’s appropriate to wear black to a wedding, especially if the attire is black-tie. I also think it depends on the location/aesthetic of the wedding,” says Who What Wear U.S.’s Lauren Eggertsen. “For example, I attended a black-tie wedding where the reception took place in a gorgeous ballroom, so a black dress seemed more than appropriate. If I were attending a summertime outdoor wedding, black might seem out of place.” On the other hand, her colleague Erin Fitzpatrick would steer clear of turning to the dark side. “I definitely don’t think it’s a universal rule anymore, but I personally prefer to skip black dresses for weddings,” she says. “Since every wedding I’ve been to has been in the summ...
Walter De Maria’s monumental floor artwork The 2000 Sculpture has found a permanent home. Now installed at the Bechtler Foundation in Uster, Switzerland, visitors will be greeted to an immersive set of 2000 white plaster units — each appearing uniform in size, but slightly differing in shape. There is a clear pattern that forms in De Maria’s arrangement that is based on their edges: 5-7-9-7-5-5-7-9-7-5. This rhythmic nod perhaps stems from the artist’s early days playing drums in the Primitives — a rock band formed in the 1960s by Lou Reed and John Cale, which is considered as a precursor to the Velvet Underground. [embedded content] World renowned as a father of the Land Art movement, De Maria transcended the confines of the gallery walls by expanding the scale of his artwork to vast...
Tavares Strachan is best-known for his multi-layered compositions that fuse science, art, history and sports into a cosmic arena that probe questions into loss and representation. His latest solo exhibition, In Broad Daylight, is a noticeable departure. On view at Perrotin in Paris, the show is Strachan’s first with the gallery and presents a series of Carrara marble sculptures that depict various Black mothers as they weep the loss of their child. In a statement on the work, Strachan was notably drawn to how religious storytelling has historically smashed “beauty and tragedy” together. “This is what I am trying to do with this series of sculptures.” The title of the show refers to the idiom used when describing the brazen-ness of a crime — one that is committed unabashedly with witne...

Flume has teamed up with the Soundwaves Art Foundation to reimagine his biggest hit for a good cause. In January 2016, Flume and Kai released their timeless single “Never Be like You.” Now, almost seven years later, the track has been remixed into a piece of art with a helping hand from the philanthropic foundation, who translated its soundwaves into a unique print. The Soundwaves Art Foundation creates these pieces in partnership with musicians, who then select a charitable organization to receive 100% of the profits from sales of the art. For Flume’s collection, he chose Childen in Conflict, a nonprofit supporting children around the world who are affected by war. Flume signing art for his Soundwaves Art Foundation-powered collection. In addition to simple, pared-down looks on the spring 2023 runways, the latest fashion season also offered up its fair share of more risqué ensembles, one of which involves ditching trousers entirely and wearing underwear—only. Even more surprising, though, was how alluring the trend turned out to be. Rather than over-the-top or showy, designers like Matthieu Blazy at Bottega Veneta and Victoria Beckham showcased the trouserless look in the most high-brow of manners. What levelled up the concept was the way in which it was styled on the runways, which I suggest you take note of for when you test out the trend IRL. At both of the aforementioned presentations, models ditched trousers and wore just tights instead, paired with classic heels and either a simple kni...
French women are known for the classics. A good pair of jeans plus a cable-knit jumper plus timeless accessories make up one of the many outfits that I think of when imagining what one would wear to galavant around Paris. One thing the items listed above have in common is that we call them basics. Since French women are very well known for artfully styling wardrobe essentials, that tends to be what we associate them with. If you take a closer look, however, you’ll notice that they also champion a lot of non-boring items. Taking a break from exploring French basics led me to notice themes like funky stripes, menswear staples, unique tailoring, and more. There are a lot of micro-trends to be found in Paris, but some of them pop up more often than othe...
If I were to see Angelina Jolie at the supermarket, I would want her to be wearing exactly what she was photographed in while leaving a grocery shop over the weekend. Her chic, minimal style can certainly be casual and comfortable, but it’s always put-together—even when she’s doing something as low-key as making a food-shop stop. Not only was Jolie’s outfit low-key, but it was also quite trendy. The trends she combined were puddle pants (baggy, wide-leg pants that are long enough to pool around the ankles), ’90s-style flatforms, and a maxi-length coat. Leave it to Jolie to make trendy pieces look oh so understated. She did so by choosing neutral colours and wearing minimal accessories, which will help you also achieve the trendy lo...
