There a many things that the French do exceptionally well, and one of those things is fragrance. French fragrance houses are considered as some of the best in the world, and Grasse in the southern part of the country is considered as the perfume capital of the world. While luxury fragrance houses Chanel and Dior might spring to mind when you think of French perfume, there is one brand that has totally entranced celebrities, editors, and beauty lovers alike. The brand is question? Diptyque. Diptyque is one of those brands that has the power to make any beauty editor’s eyes widen at the mere mention of it. If you haven’t yet tried the fragrances, you’ll have no doubt have seen the iconic candles flittered through your social media feeds, or on the mantelpiec...
Big statement incoming: leather is a staple in my wardrobe. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, leather often looks better with age, meaning it is a great fabrication to invest in and bring out year after year. Secondly, there is always a great choice of leather pieces out there, whether that’s skirts or shirts, jackets or trousers. And there’s always something for every price point. But today I am here to talk about just one of these styles and that’s leather skirts. Leather, just like denim, can really anchor your wardrobe and is a great foundation piece that you can style in so many ways. From broderie anglaise in the summer to a chunky mohair knit in the autumn, you might be surprised with what leather can be paired with, and mixing textures and fabr...
Hailey Bieber has the art of outfit making down to a science. Whether she’s keeping it casual at the gym or masquerading at a costume party, this style star has both the taste and talent for putting together a seemingly effortless yet inspired look. Case in point: the knitted midi dress and knee-high black boots she wore earlier this week at The Wall Street Journal’s Tech Live conference in Laguna Beach. Bieber—who took to the WSJ stage to discuss the launch of her skincare line, Rhode, and her hit YouTube series, Who’s in My Bathroom?—looked ever the entrepreneur while clad in a slouchy yet sophisticated V-neck knitted dress and classic black pointy-toe boots. Although this outfit is decidedly more traditional than the trends...
Coming in a handful of cool colourways—currently black, beige, red, light blue, green and lilac—this blazer has certainly earned its reputation for being a classic wardrobe staple, especially since it’s pretty darn seasonlesss and available to buy at Arket year-round. A popular versatile styling hack is to throw it over a simple jeans and T-shirt look, but I’ve also seen other fashion editors styling theirs over midi, maxi and mini dresses, with leggings and knee-high boots, or with the matching Hopsack trousers for a polished suit finish. It truly comes into its own in autumn, though. Mine are from a few years ago now and I still wear both colours on repeat all season, usually with a thin cashmere knit either under it or tied around my shoulders, ...
Continuing his longstanding partnership with Pokémon, Daniel Arsham has revealed his latest sculpture from the fictional universe, creating a BRONZE CRYSTALIZED CHARIZARD sculpture reimagined as a relic of Kanto which has been uncovered through the passage of time. While Arsham has created eroded Charmander figures and PINK CRYSTALIZED CHARIZARD Pokémon cards in the past, the artist’s new cast bronze Charizard sculptures are hand-finished in custom black oil patina for the first time. Crystals are individually polished for a reflective glaze. Each Charizard edition measures 31 cm high and weighs 10 kilograms with only 99 editions available. The sculptures arrive encased in a custom Arsham Studio crate which includes a pair of embroidered art handling gloves and a Certificate of Authe...
“1-800 Happy Birthday” is a new exhibition that honors Black and Brown lives that were taken at the hands of police brutality. The project was created by Iranian-American artist, filmmaker and Even/Odd founder, Mohammad Gorjestani, in collaboration with curator Klaudia Ofwona Draber and art director Neil Hamamoto. The exhibition first started in 2020 as an online voicemail project, where callers could leave a message for people who were unjustly killed by law enforcement on their birthdays. Mapped across the 8,000-square-foot warehouse of WORTHLESSSTUDIOS in Brooklyn, visitors will encounter 12 up-cycled NYC pay-phones — each dedicated to one “celebrant” from the families of Dujuan Armstrong, Sandra Bland, Philando Castile, Stephon Clark, Fred Cox, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant, Xzavier Hill, D...

When it comes to 2022’s unexpected comebacks, none have surprised me more than the return of the mullet. Yes, this retro throwback haircut—made cool in the ’70s by celebs like David Bowie and less so in the ’80s by presenters like Pat Sharp—is enjoying something of a renaissance as we all emerge out of lockdown ready to embrace a long back and sides, apparently. In fact, according to a report by Cloud Nine, the mullet has 7.7 billion TikTok views and 2.24 million Google searches worldwide over the 12 months. That’s a lot of mullet inspo. While Henri Matisse is widely celebrated for his paper cutouts, his rival, Pablo Picasso, also had a seldom-known series of cut-paper artworks that spanned the entirety of his life. A new exhibition at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles is providing a rare glimpse into this practice. Organized by Cynthia Burlingham and Allegra Pesenti, with support from the Musée national Picasso–Paris, Picasso Cut Papers provides a comprehensive look at one of Picasso’s private studies that first started in 1890, at age nine, and would continue through the 1960s. Most of the work on view has never been sold or exhibited. Rather, Picasso created these paper-based cutouts as gifts for friends and family, along with using them as a exploratory “pre-sketches” for larger paintings and sculptures. The exhibition ...
Martin Garrix‘s influence has extended far beyond the confines of the electronic dance music community before. But an upcoming collaboration with Marvel may lead to an eruption of his brand the likes of which we haven’t yet seen. Garrix has revealed he’s working on a new video game currently in development at the iconic entertainment company. “I was at Marvel this morning, and I did something for a new video game they’re launching,” Garrix said in a recent interview. “There’s all these projects in the works at the same time, which I’m very excited about.” Garrix stopped short of revealing the title of the game he’s working on. He also didn’t say whether he was voicing a character or producing music for Marvel Games, but it...
A painting from Cy Twombly’s famous Bacchus series is expected to lead Phillips’ upcoming auction with an estimated price of $35 to 45m USD. The large-scale painting will be a part of the Evening Sale of 20th Century & Contemporary Art in New York, which also includes work by old masters, such as Pablo Picasso, Willem de Kooning and René Magritte, to more prominent working artists ranging Julie Mehretu, Yayoi Kusama and Rashid Johnson. Created in 2005, Twombly’s Untitled is swathed with circular applications of red paint that parades the eye into a cycle of violent spirals. The series, created between 2003 and 2008, was inspired by the ancient Greco-Roman deity, Bacchus the god of wine, who in one way reflects the joys that alcohol can bring, while simultaneously imbuing a sense of mad...
