Frieze London 2022 is right around the corner and there are a number of unique installations that will go on view, including a large herbal-inspired artwork by British artist, Emma Talbot. From digital billboards to large curtain-like sheaths, Talbot is known for creating floral universes made of text and mythological figures that are partly inspired by her own experiences, while commenting on topics related to nature, urbanism, politics and technology. For the upcoming fair, Talbot will install a 28-meter-long (roughly 92-feet) painted silk hanging garden titled 21st Century Herbal at the entrance. The artist notes that piece was inspired by medieval manuscripts that describe plants and their properties, from well-known medicinal remedies, toxic plants, as well as pop culture references r...
U.S. President Joe Biden has issued an executive order reinstating the Arts and Humanities Committee that was disbanded after a large majority of its members collectively resigned in protest of former President Donald Trump. The announcement came last Friday, September 30, as the White House reiterated the importance of the committee as being “essential to the well-being, health, vitality, and democracy of our Nation.” First formed by former President Ronald Reagan back in 1982, the committee worked directly with the White House, along with the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), and the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) — by overseeing federal spending on various art projects and cultural preservation. In 2017, author ...
The Audi TT — everyone’s favorite Bauhaus-inspired speedster — turns 25 in 2023, and Audi is celebrating a little early with an “Iconic Edition” of the TT RS Coupe. The fittingly-named vehicle is limited to a scant 100 units (all of which have been delegated to Europe), and, per Audi, looks to salute the TT’s legacy with a combination of “performance and passion.” When the TT first hit the market in 1998, its rounded shape drew from the principles of reductive design preached by Bauhaus icons like Walter Gropus, Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. “The TT was inspired by Bauhaus’ universal design philosophy of ‘less is more’,” says March Lichte, Audi’s head of design. “The maximum reduction [of the TT’s design...
Wisk Aero has debuted its 6th-generation all-electric air taxi. The Generation 6 is a vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle with room for four passengers. It also happens to be Wisk’s first aircraft that’s a potential candidate for FAA certification of an autonomous eVTOL, according to the company. While the Generation 6 operates autonomously, Wisk guarantees human oversight of every flight from supervisors who can intervene at any moment. The vehicle is capable of reaching 2,500 feet (762 m) to 4,000 feet (1,219 m) in altitude and can cruise around 120 knots (138 mph). The company stresses that safety is paramount. To exceed aviation safety standards, the Generation 6 employs a simplified design consisting of few moving parts, as well as no hydraulics, oil or fuel. Wisk emphasizes ...
I realise that in many ways the concept of trends also being considered classic enough to look good in a few years’ time is something of an oxymoron. After all, trends are fleeting, right? Well, in some ways yes. But in another sense, trends can diverge into a more reliable zone for two different reasons. Sometimes, trends just go on and on for so long that they become a staple part of the fashion lexicon—it’s almost like we can’t get dressed anymore without them, and it’s strange to think that outfits existed beforehand. Imagine a world without skinny jeans or ballet pumps—sure, they may ebb and flow in popularity at times, but they never really die out even if you personally aren’t a fan. Then there’s the fact that trends revol...
One of our main takes from fashion month? Pleated miniskirts are back. This leg-baring silhouette might spark school-day nostalgia in some of us and fear in midi skirt loyalists, but the street style set has rebranded it as a seriously covetable item. It’s a daunting piece to style—not only because it necessitates your entire leg being on show, but also because it feels intrinsically costumey and reminiscent of Britney Spears in her “…Baby One More Time” era. With Halloween on the horizon, that’s not a risk we want to take (as much as we love Britney). While I tend to veer toward effortless dressing, I can recognise the satisfaction in conquering a tricky piece of clothing and getting it to work in your wardrobe, especia...

This, the nostalgia and deep roots of the brand made it seem almost unreal when it was announced it was going into administration. Of course, this was a move every fashion editor had seen coming for a while, but the followthrough of seeing a Great British fashion institution close its doors was a sad day for the high street. But, a ray of hope: Topshop had been acquired by ASOS, another shopping stalwart. Perhaps the magic of Topshop would be reimagined into a new digital concept. It’s been a moment, but that time is now.Topshop has officially relaunched, and after a few edits that didn’t quite live up to its former glory, that Topshop magic has been recaptured, and just in time for it to make a positive impact on our autumn wardrobes. It’s clear to me that the design tea...
The Emerald Tablet is a new group exhibition and curatorial project by Ariana Papademetropoulos. Housed at Jeffrey Deitch in Los Angeles, the show takes viewers on a journey through the alchemy and transportive power of set design. Co-curated by Alexandre Stipanovich, the exhibition presents work from a number of figures across the creative industry, including Gus Van Sant, Mike Kelley, Leonora Carrington, Lucy Bull, Beck, and many more. Emblematic of its title, the show is thematically based on Dorothy’s quest to The Emerald City in Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz. Starting in the first gallery, Papademetropoulos presents five paintings that combine the surreal with the mundane, the tangible with the ethereal — a duality that prompts viewers to find magic in their immediate surroundings. Fu...

My personal favourite from the new collection is the chocolate brown crew neck knit (I have a few of this style in different colours and take them everywhere with me during spring, autumn and winter— throwing them around my shoulders and chucking them in handbags whenever I’m not 100% sure what the weather will do). But if you’re looking for knitwear with a little more personality, there’s also styles like the beautiful off-the-shoulder Natalia jumper or the embellished-sleeve Emanuele. As well as plenty of cute cardigans, co-ord sets and extended sizing options too. Celebrities, influencers and fashion people (myself included) already seem to have cotton on to Reformation’s greatness, and if you needed any more excuses to join the fan club, this new cashmere collection might just be it.&n...
