Pink Floyd’s 1975 album Wish You Were Here has made history by taking the top spot on the latest Official UK Albums Chart. Not only does it have the honor of being this year’s No. 1 for Christmas week, it also breaks a record held by The Beatles.
The iconic LP’s chart achievement was no doubt helped by a new 50th anniversary edition that was released in various formats. Wish You Were Here 50 boasts a Dolby Atmos mix and 25 bonus tracks.

By taking the No. 1 spot 50 years after it first hit No. 1 in 1975, Wish You Were Here sets a new record for the longest span of time between topping the Official UK Albums Chart. The Beatles’ Abbey Road previously held the record at just under 50 years, having hit No. 1 in 1969 and again in 2019.

Pink Floyd singer-guitarist David Gilmour celebrated the achievement on Instagram, by sharing a photo of himself raising a glass of beer (or cider?) at a pub, with the words, “Raising a glass to the wonderful news that Wish You Were Here is the UK’s Christmas Number 1 album.”
While Wish You Were Here marks Pink Floyd’s first-ever Christmas No. 1 album, the band previously had the Christmas No. 1 single in 1979 with “Another Brick in the Wall, Part 2.”
