Donald Trump announced in a social media post that the nominees for the 2025 Kennedy Center Honors will be revealed on Wednesday, August 13th.
“GREAT Nominees for the TRUMP/KENNEDY CENTER, whoops, I mean, KENNEDY CENTER, AWARDS. They will be announced Wednesday.” Traditionally, the Honors celebrate living figures in the performing arts, but Trump previously indicated his desire to broaden the criteria to include politicians, executives, posthumous figures, and what he describes as “slightly more conservative” individuals. He’s mentioned names like Elvis Presley, Babe Ruth, and Sylvester Stallone as possible honorees.
In the same post, Trump added that, “Tremendous work is being done, and money being spent, on bringing [the Kennedy Center] back to the absolute TOP LEVEL of luxury, glamour, and entertainment. It had fallen on hard times, physically, BUT WILL SOON BE MAKING A MAJOR COMEBACK!!!” One recent Republican bill would rename the Kennedy Center to the Donald J. Trump Center for the Performing Arts, while another GOP proposal would rebrand the Center’s Opera House after Melania Trump.
