Summary
- Toei Animation announced Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a total series reconstruction featuring updated visuals and audio for 2026
- A new sequel, The Galactic Patrol, marks the first Dragon Ball Super narrative return since 2018
- Both projects debuted at Genkidamatsuri
At the Genkidamatsuri event in Japan – held to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the franchise – Toei Animation officially announced two major projects for the Dragon Ball franchise. Headlining the presentation is Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a comprehensive remaster of the original series slated for a Fall 2026 debut.
Positioned as a technical overhaul rather than a standard reissue, the Beerus edition utilizes modern production techniques to provide a more faithful interpretation of Akira Toriyama’s original vision. The project features entirely re-rendered footage, integrated new animation cuts and revised sequences for heightened immersion. This upgrade extends to the audio, with freshly recorded voice tracks and a completely refreshed musical score. Legendary voice actors Masako Nozawa and Koichi Yamadera joined producer Akio Iyoku on stage to debut a trailer highlighting these modernized aesthetics.
In a move that thrilled the global fanbase, the event also confirmed the long-awaited continuation of the story with Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol. This new production picks up immediately following the “Universe Survival Arc,” marking the first televised return of the Dragon Ball Super narrative in seven years since its 2018 conclusion.
