Dyson Announces Stormzy as its Latest Global Ambassador

Dyson Announces Stormzy as its Latest Global Ambassador

Following the recent announcement of its partnership with British singer-songwriter Raye, Dyson has continued to recruit the best of Britain’s musical talent and today announced London-based grime and rap star, Stormzy, as its newest global ambassador.

Stormzy, real name Michael Omari, kicked down the doors into the grime scene in 2014 with his “Wicked Skengman” series of freestyles, gaining attention for his refreshing delivery and lyricism over a slew of classic instrumentals. Most notably, his hit single “Shut Up” — which samples “Functions on the Low” by XTC — entered the UK singles chart at number eight. Now, after becoming the first-ever grime artist to drop a number-one album while also winning the British Album of the Year at the 2018 Brit Awards and performing as a Glastonbury headliner in 2019, Big Mike is working with Dyson in a campaign that allows him to “tune everything out and stay focused.”

Complementing Stormzy’s love for creating future-facing sonics — influenced by grime, gospel, and soul — the new Dyson OnTrac headphones have been released with 40mm speaker drivers and audio signal processing, reproducing 6Hz to 21kH. This allows Big Mike to process every beat, chord, and melody as he works on his latest album, which has been teased on socials over the last few weeks and months.

Alongside today’s announcement, Dyson has released a new campaign film it says captures the “chaotic” nature of Stormzy’s lifestyle. From hopping on flights to hitting the stage and working on his next hit record, Stormzy’s OnTrac headphones are with him for the duration of his day-to-day routine, a nod to the headphones 55-hour battery life.

“Whether I’m catching a flight, getting ready for a show, or working on new music, I need to tune everything out and stay focused,” Stormzy said. “The Dyson OnTrac headphones make it easy — they’re with me through every trip, no matter how long or hectic the day gets.”

The movie is shot through the 55-hour battery lifespan of the OnTrac headphones, featuring clips that hone in on features like active noise cancellation and the 10-minute charge that develops an additional two and a half hours of extra battery.

While Stormzy’s style has evolved over the years, from a red adidas Originals tracksuit to being styled by Banksy at Glastonbury, Big Mike never steers too far away from his trusted black tracksuit, one that he often wears when on the ground at his #Merky FC football headquarters. His new OnTrac headphones align with this look, as his “CNC Black Nikel” OnTrac headphones are hit with a splash of khaki on the ear cushions for a pop of color.
