Far Cry is finally leveling up to live-action, with FX ordering a limited anthology TV series based on Ubisoft’s global hit video game franchise and set to stream on Hulu in the US and Disney+ internationally.
The series comes from longtime FX power players Rob Mac and Noah Hawley, with Mac set to star in the first season and both serving as executive producers under their More Better Productions and 26 Keys banners. Staying true to the games, the show will embrace Far Cry’s signature standalone format, with each season dropping into a new setting with a fresh cast of characters and plenty of chaos, moral ambiguity, and open-world-style mayhem.
FX is framing the project as another prestige swing, highlighting its history of “magnificent partnerships” with Mac and Hawley across six series and 32 seasons of television.
Ubisoft is positioning the adaptation as the next evolution for a franchise that has pulled in more than 100 million unique players since 2004, celebrating its blend of first-person shootouts, organic open-world playgrounds, and unforgettable villains.
Hawley leans into the property’s built-in flexibility, calling Far Cry “an anthology” where each game is a variation on a theme and describing the opportunity to explore humanity “through this complex and chaotic lens” as a dream scenario for a big action series. For Mac, the show extends his current empire that stretches from It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia to Welcome to Wrexham, and reunites him with Ubisoft after their Mythic Quest run, signaling a project that understands both gaming culture and FX’s sharp, character-driven storytelling.
