The terrifying world of Gilead is officially opening its doors to a new generation. Hulu has released the first official trailer for The Testaments, the highly anticipated sequel series to its massive cultural phenomenon The Handmaid’s Tale. Dropping fans back into the totalitarian, theocratic regime 15 years after the events of the original show, the upcoming series promises a fresh, deeply unsettling coming-of-age story.

Based on Margaret Atwood‘s acclaimed 2019 sequel novel, The Testaments shifts its focus away from June Osborne to the young women who have grown up with no tangible memories of the outside world prior to their indoctrination. The new footage introduces audiences to Agnes (Chase Infiniti)—the daughter June desperately tried to save in the original series—as she navigates the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s (Ann Dowd) elite preparatory school for future wives.

“Back then, we still believed in this world,” Agnes states hauntingly in a voiceover. “I guess it’s easier to accept a story than believe that the people around you are monsters.” Her indoctrinated worldview is quickly shaken by the arrival of Daisy (Lucy Halliday), a new transfer student from Canada whose rebellious nature and potential ties to the Mayday resistance threaten to upend Gilead from the inside out. As the young girls face the bleak prospect of forced marriages and a lifetime of servitude, they must find allies to fight for their freedom.

Behind the scenes, The Handmaid’s Tale creator Bruce Miller returns as showrunner to helm the massive dystopian expansion, with original series star Elisabeth Moss serving as a co-executive producer. Rounding out the ensemble cast, The Testaments features Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Mabel Li, and Amy Seimetz in key supporting roles.

With a new generation ready to challenge the oppressive society from within, the resistance lives on. The Testaments is officially set to premiere on Hulu with its first three episodes on April 8, 2026, followed by weekly releases.
