After being twice adapted for the big screen, Cape Fear is becoming an Apple TV show, and looks ready to find a fresh angle. an acclaimed cast and 10 episodes to explore the nuances of this revenge tale, starring Amy Adams, Patrick Wilson, and Javier Bardem. The series is set to premiere this June.
The official Cape Fear description, according to Apple, confirms that the show is “inspired by” Martin Scorsese’s 1991 remake, produced by Steven Spielberg. (Both filmmakers are producers on the new show.) “A storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna (Adams) and Tom Bowden (Wilson) when Max Cady (Bardem), the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison — and he wants vengeance.”
Cape Fear was originally adapted from John D. MacDonald’s novel The Executioners in 1962, with Gregory Peck then being stalked by Robert Mitchum. In 1991, Nick Nolte was stalked by Robert De Niro. The rest of this modern-day Cape Fear cast includes CCH Pounder, Joe Anders, Lily Collias, Jamie Hector, Malia Pyles, and Anna Baryshnikov.
