Jensen McRae Dissects New Album I Don't Know How But They Found Me! Track by Track

Track by Track is our recurring feature series giving artists a space to guide readers through each song on their new release. Today, singer-songwriter Jensen McRae breaks down her new album, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!

Since first going viral with songs like “Wolves” and “Immune,” rising folk singer Jensen McRae has demonstrated a knack for deeply personal yet relatable songwriting. On her sophomore album, I Don’t Know How But They Found Me!, the artist continues her evolution, exploring themes of heartbreak, self-reflection, and personal growth.

Titled after a line from Doc Brown in Back to the Future, the new album was recorded in North Carolina with producer Brad Cook (best known for his work with Bon Iver, Waxahatchee, and Indigo Girls). Inspired by Tracy Chapman and Joni Mitchell, McRae’s warm, rich vocal timbre brings an added emotional depth to songs like “Savannah.”

Another standout from the album is the penultimate track, “Praying for Your Downfall,” which represents the culmination of learning to completely let go of a past relationship.

“A breakup or an abandonment of any kind means your life no longer has anything to do with theirs,” she tells Consequence. “Their successes don’t mean you’re losing, and their failures don’t mean you’re winning. It’s much easier said than done, but this song does a good job of saying it.”

In early May, McRae will kick off her “Praying for Your Downfall Tour” across North America. Tickets can be purchased here.
