Kenshi Yonezu Debuts “IRIS OUT” Music Video Ahead of ‘Chainsaw Man’ Film Premiere

Summary

  • Kenshi Yonezu has dropped the music video for “IRIS OUT,” a theme song for the new Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc film
  • Available to stream now, the full single will be released on September 24

In anticipation of this week’s Japan premiere for Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, Kenshi Yonezu has released the official music video for “IRIS OUT” — one of two theme songs for the upcoming film. Written and performed by Yonezu, the two-and-a-half-minute track unfolds in a jazzy, ragtime-esque arrangement — its pounding bassline punctuated by techno accents, layered human vocals and vibrant piano riffs that conjure a mood at once playful, chaotic and dangerously electric.

Sonically, “IRIS OUT” captures the cinematic impact of Reze, the film’s pivotal new character. The official English lyrics dramatize Denji’s infatuation: “The way you look up at me is so adorable, it just kills me/it’s almost illegal/Scattering madness, I’d squandered it all before I knew it and your existence is to blame/My head’s severed from my body/I love yous spew from my carotid artery and it’s IRIS OUT” — underscoring his reckless, obsessive ardor.

The title itself references the classic cinematic iris-out effect, where a scene’s outer edges darken in a closing circle to spotlight a subject before the frame fades to black. “IRIS OUT” is now streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, while the single’s flip side – a collaboration with Hikaru Utada – arrives September 24 via SME Records.  Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc will premiere in Japan on September 19 and opens in U.S. theaters on October 24, 2025.
