Leave it to Larry June to be on one of the most consistent runs of his recent career without at all sounding like he’s in a rush…
While we’re all still bumping the Bay Area rapper’s most recent release from a few months back – his acclaimed Life is Beautiful collab project with 2 Chainz and The Alchemist – June has returned with another full-length offering, doused in his no-drama demeanor and classically Californian mentality. Entitled Until Night Comes, the album comes equipped with production from one of June’s right-hand collaborators, Cardo Got Wings.
Clocking in at 14 songs, Until Night Comes is a sonic encapsulation of a West Coast summer, evident even at the top line, with track titles like “Meet Me on Harbor” and “7 Mile Bike Ride pt. 2.” Another is a true testament to the rapper’s wellness-oriented lifestyle dubbed, verbatim, “Organic Free Range Chicken.”
When June and Cardo link up, there’s really no need for any additional players in the ring, but on Until Night Comes – the duo’s fourth full-length collab LP – they brings on a handful of collaborators – but only those who can match the energy and effortless swagger seamlessly swimming through the rest of the project. Don Toliver hops on “100 Bags,” while E-40 contributes bars to “Ya Feel Me,” and Wiz Khalifa and Richie Rich assist on the closing cut “Until Night Comes.”
