Michael Fassbender Joins Netflix's 'Kennedy' Series as Joseph Kennedy Sr.

Summary

  • Netflix greenlit a new historical drama, Kennedy, set to explore the famous American political dynasty
  • Michael Fassbender joins the cast as the family patriarch, Joseph Kennedy Sr.
  • Season one, set in the 1930s, charts the ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children

A new series focusing on America’s Kennedy family has received the greenlight from Netflix, with Michael Fassbender joining the cast as patriarch Joseph Kennedy Sr.

The historical drama will is being led by showrunner Sam Shaw, with Thomas Vinterberg set to direct and Chernin Entertainment. Kennedy is based on Fredrik Logevall’s 2020 biography JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century, 1917-1956, with season one taking place in the 30. “Beginning in the 1930s, the first season charts the improbable ascent of Joe and Rose Kennedy and their nine children, including the rebellious second son, Jack, who struggles to escape the shadow of his golden-boy older brother,” the streamer shared. No additional casting information has been announced as of writing.

“The story of the Kennedys is the closest we have to American mythology — somewhere between Shakespeare and The Bold and the Beautiful,” said Shaw. “But Fredrik Logevall’s stunning, nuanced biography pulls a veil on the human strivings and burdens behind the myth, revealing as much about our present moment, how we got here and where we’re going, as about the Kennedys themselves. I’m thrilled to be able to explore this saga of a family and a world in transition.”

Stay tuned for an official trailer and release date.
