MTV Cancels Ridiculousness

MTV Cancels Ridiculousness

Like trees shedding tree bark or the ocean giving up on water, MTV will cancel Ridiculousness, a show that across 46 seasons and more than 1,700 episodes came to dominate MTV’s programming.

Launched in 2011 and hosted by Rob Dyrdek, Ridiculousness featured panel discussions about viral videos. As the show took over more and more of MTV’s schedule, it became the poster child for how social media was eating the rest of culture, as one of the first and most famous cable television channels devoted itself to regurgitated clips.

Sources told TMZ that parent company Paramount will “reimagine MTV for the future.” According to VarietyMTV will look for new content that “embraces its experimental DNA” and brings “different creative voices” and “refreshed programming.” But in the meantime, it’s probably safe to expect plenty of Ridiculousness reruns.

Shake-ups at MTV have been unfolding for more than a year. Last summer, Paramount buried the MTV News archive, and this year, before the VMAs, some MTV channels briefly returned to showing music videos.
