Nicolas Cage Suits Up in Gritty First Trailer for Live-Action ‘Spider-Noir’

Nicolas Cage Suits Up in Gritty First Trailer for Live-Action 'Spider-Noir'

Summary

  • Nicolas Cage stars as Ben Reilly in the first trailer for Spider-Noir, set in 1930s New York
  • The series features a dual-format release, allowing viewers to watch in either black-and-white or “True-Hue” color
  • Premiere dates are set for May 25 on MGM+ and May 27 on Prime Video

“With no power, comes no responsibility.” Nicolas Cage has officially entered the live-action Spider-Verse, trading the colorful animation of his previous iteration for a trench coat and fedora in the first trailer for Spider-Noir. The teaser introduces a hard-boiled vision of the Marvel web-slinger, transporting the hero to the rain-soaked streets of Depression-era New York.

Set in 1930s Manhattan, the series follows Ben Reilly (Cage), an aging and down-on-his-luck private investigator who is forced to grapple with his past life as the city’s one and only superhero. Unlike the Peter Parker iteration Cage voiced in Into the Spider-Verse, this live-action take is a grittier, grounded character study. The trailer showcases Reilly navigating a landscape of smoky nightclubs and gangland violence, balancing his time between drinking egg creams and brawling with mobsters.

Visually, the show pays homage to classic cinema. In a unique move, Prime Video will release the series in two distinct formats: a traditional black-and-white version and a “True-Hue” color version, giving audiences control over the aesthetic experience. The production is helmed by showrunners Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, with Spider-Verse architects Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal serving as executive producers.

The footage also provides a first look at the ensemble cast. Lamorne Morris stars as journalist Robbie Robertson, while Brendan Gleeson takes on the role of the mob boss Silvermane. The roster is rounded out by Li Jun Li as the femme fatale Cat Hardy, Jack Huston as Flint Marko (Sandman), and Karen Rodriguez.

Spider-Noir is scheduled to premiere domestically on the linear channel MGM+ on May 25, 2026. A global release will follow on Prime Video on May 27, 2026, where all episodes will be available to binge.
