Hollywood’s favorite duo is back, but the stakes have never been more lethal. Netflix has officially dropped the trailer for The Rip, an explosive crime thriller that reunites Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in a gritty, high-octane descent into the Miami underworld. Directed by Joe Carnahan, the film channels the raw intensity of ’70s cop classics like Serpico while delivering a modern, high-stakes moral dilemma.

The plot centers on Lieutenant Dane Dumars (Damon) and Detective Sergeant JD Byrne (Affleck), long-time partners in a tactical narcotics unit. During a raid on a derelict stash house, the team uncovers millions in untraceable cartel cash. What begins as a massive win for the department quickly spirals into a claustrophobic nightmare as greed and paranoia take hold. As outside forces—both criminal and political—converge on the discovery, the “telepathic” bond between the two partners begins to fray, leaving them to wonder if they can trust their colleagues, or even each other.

Backing up the lead duo is a powerhouse ensemble, including Steven Yuen, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle and Kyle Chandler. With Carnahan’s signature visceral direction and a script that explores the thin line between duty and temptation, The Rip is positioned to be Netflix’s first major cinematic event of they year, premiering on January 16 on the streamer.
