New England garage punk trio Perennial are back to announce a new EP, Perennial ‘65, out April 4th. They’ve also shared the EP’s title track.
Perennial ‘65 finds the band expanding on the ’60s-inspired “mod-punk” sound captured on their 2024 album, Art History. The EP is comprised of a cover of The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night,” originals “C is for Cubism” and the newly-revealed title track, and two remixes of tracks from Art History: a rework of “Tiger Technique” courtesy of The Blood Brothers’ Cody Votolato, and a remix of “Up-Tight” from ex-Death Cab for Cutie guitarist and producer Chris Walla.
“Perennial ’65” is as catchy and rambunctious as anything on Art History, and serves as a great crash course into the band’s mix of classic pop and explosive punk. The incessant tambourine hits and old-school organ playing bring an air of nostalgia, but the dueling vocals from Chad Jewett and Chelsea Hahn provide heaps of rousing energy.
