Roku Is Working on Making Its Own Smart TVs

Roku is working on building its own TVs. The company shared the news at CES, announcing that it would be venturing into HD and 4K smart TVs in a variety of size options.

While Roku isn’t new to the smart TV business, having partnered with companies like Hisense to manufacture TVs beginning in 2014, this is the first time Roku will be developing and building the TVs completely solo.

Although Roku will have to compete with bigger names in the space, it seems that they’ll be trying to get a leg up through a more competitive price point. The company said that their forthcoming TVs will range in size from 24 inches to 75 inches and will be priced starting at $119 USD, with the most expensive model retailing for $999 USD.

All TVs will be able to be controlled through the Roku Voice Remote Pros, which can be charged via USB instead of requiring batteries.
The company hasn’t revealed how much the accompanying soundbars for the TVs will run.

An exact release date for the smart TVs will be announced later on, but they’re currently expected to arrive sometime this spring.

In other tech news, Alienware will release the world’s first 500Hz gaming monitor.
