Scarlett Johansson is officially starring in Mike Flanagan’s “radical new take” on The Exorcist.
“Scarlett is a brilliant actress whose captivating performances always feel grounded and real, from genre films to summer blockbusters, and I couldn’t be happier to have her join this Exorcist film,” Flanagan said via Variety.
His upcoming version of The Exorcist will tell a brand new story rather than serve as a sequel to The Exorcist: Believer. No additional details have been revealed as of writing. “The Exorcist is one of the reasons I became a filmmaker, and it is an honor to have the chance to try something fresh, bold, and terrifying within its universe. Reuniting with my friends at Blumhouse, with whom I’ve made some of my favorite pieces of work, only makes this more exciting,” Flanagan said in a previous statement.
Flanagan’s The Exorcist film will be produced by Blumhouse-Atomic Monster, Morgan Creek Entertainment and the director/writer himself via Red Room Pictures.
