The iconic cyberpunk franchise returns as Bandai Namco Filmworks unveils the first promotional video for the new The Ghost in the Shell television series. Produced by Science SARU – the acclaimed studio behind global hits Dan Da Dan and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off – this project marks the franchise’s first animated entry since the 2023 conclusion of Ghost in the Shell: SAC 2045.

The 35-second teaser offers a striking glimpse of Motoko Kusanagi, featuring character designs by Shūhei Handa that pay direct homage to Masamune Shirow’s original 1989 manga. Making his directorial debut, Moko-chan (Touma Kimura) leads the production, supported by scriptwriter Toh Enjoe. The score is composed by a high-profile team including Taisei Iwasaki, Ryō Konishi and Yuki Kanesaka. Original creator Masamune Shirow has described this adaptation as a potential “second generation” for the series, with producers emphasizing a commitment to the source material’s intricate cyberpunk roots.

Leveraging the fluid, high-energy animation style that has become Science SARU’s hallmark, the series promises a fresh yet faithful take on Motoko Kusanagi’s fight against cybercrime. The Ghost in the Shell is scheduled to premiere in July 2026. Check out the promotional video above.
