Seun Kuti Keeps Heat on Wizkid vs Fela Debate
‘I just collected $120k (N150M) because I’m Fela son, can your dad do that from the grave?’ – Seun Kuti blasts Wizkid FC.
Afrobeats star Seun Kuti is keeping the heat on Wizkid FC, refusing to let comparisons between Wizkid and his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, slide.
The debate reignited during a recent Instagram live session, where Seun expressed his frustration over fans labeling Wizkid as the “New Fela” or even claiming he’s a bigger artist than Fela.
Seun reiterated his earlier stance, previously reported by Entertainment Region, describing Wizkid FC as “the most ignorant fan base in the world.”
He stressed that calling any modern musician the “new Fela” fundamentally misunderstands his father’s legacy, a legacy that, according to Seun, cannot be replicated.
The drama escalated after Nigerian producer Samklef, a member of Wizkid FC, fired back at Seun, accusing him of targeting the fan base out of personal dislike for Wizkid. Samklef even went as far as labeling Seun “Bald Head Vulture” in a pointed online attack.
But Seun stood firm, making it clear that no contemporary artist, no matter their fame, can be compared to Fela. He highlighted the enduring power of his father’s accomplishments, pointing out that Fela’s legacy still benefits him decades after his death.
“Fela’s son. Fela is still blessing me from the grave 29 years later. How many of your fathers can do that from the grave? None, because your fathers are not accomplished,” Seun said.
He used the opportunity to call out Wizkid FC directly, noting that while Wizkid and DJ Tunez enjoy the clout that comes with their association, they rarely speak up to defend Fela from disrespect.
“Wizkid and DJ Tunez are enjoying the clout, which is why they won’t come out to say, ‘Stop disrespecting Fela in my name.’”
Seun’s message was clear: his father’s legacy is untouchable, and no amount of fan hype or contemporary stardom can change that.
