South Park’s Season 27 Premiere Shatters 26-Year Viewership Record

South Park's Season 27 Premiere Shatters 26-Year Viewership Record

If it felt like everyone you knew was talking about the Season 27 premiere of South Park, there might be a reason. Comedy Central has revealed that the debut of “Sermon on the ‘Mount” was seen by nearly six million cross-platform viewers, a 68% increase from the Season 26 premiere. This marks the biggest South Park premiere in 26 years, since the Season 3 premiere aired in April 1999, making the episode the #1 telecast across all cable channels on Wednesday, July 23rd.

“Sermon on the ‘Mount” was also “the most social episode ever” (per an official release from Comedy Central) as for over 12 hours, #SouthPark was trending on X, ranking as the #1 hashtag for 5 hours of that time.

The season premiere featured creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone taking ruthless aim at Donald Trump, leading to some of the show’s most subversive political satire yet. Parker and Stone, of course, are “terribly sorry” about hurting Trump’s feelings by showing his uncensored micropenis on television.
