St. Vincent appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night, where she covered David Bowie’s “Young Americans” to kick off Colbert’s new musical segment Under the Covers.
In a pre-performance interview, Annie Clark shared that she previously covered the song at a Love Rocks benefit concert at the Beacon Theatre in 2023, which Colbert happened to attend. Colbert recalled speaking to a Beacon employee, who told him, “It takes some balls to cover this song.” “About a minute later,” Colbert continued, “I turned to him and said, ‘Looks like she’s got ’em.’”
Colbert also named some artists who she would like to see cover her music, including Erykah Badu, Doechii, and The Slits.
This is the second time in 2025 that St. Vincent has appeared on Colbert. Back in April, she performed the track “Violent Times” from her latest album All Born Screaming.
