Earlier this month, Consequence surveyed the first half of 2025 with our mid-year report, highlighting the best music the year has offered fans so far. Well, just within the few weeks since then, there’s already a long list of new contenders that are right there in contention with our previous favorite. Like, a long list. Far be it from us to complain about an influx of worthwhile music, though!
From Addison Rae proving her star power to our June CoSigns Hotline TNT continuing their hot streak, Little Simz wowing us once again to Greet Death providing the soundtrack to a summer of melancholy, these are the records from the past four weeks that have us coming back for listen after listen. <p>Look, I was just as surprised as you. I, too, thought she was a TikTok dancer — no, wait, actress? — and when she started making music, I probably uttered a “yeah, sure, whatever” to myself and carried on. And then I heard “Headphones On” when it dropped in April and I did not need much more convincing that Addison Rae was the real deal. Her music is warm and serene and frequently gorgeous, cleverly toying with nostalgic ideas and marrying them to more contemporary, moody production choices. Her feather-light voice can be downright medicinal, and songs like “Diet Pepsi” and “Summer Forever” feel like faded, euphoric memories. She’s not reinventing the wheel, but her vision of pop music is nonetheless intoxicating and sublime. — <em>Paolo Ragusa</em></p>

Annahstasia — Tether

<p>Thank God Annahstasia broke away from her early handlers. The industry hobnobbers who first became aware of the Nigerian-American’s immense talent initially tried to shoehorn her into R&B and pop spaces, much to the chagrin of the folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and model (whom you may have seen as Kendrick Lamar’s love interest in the music video for the chart-topper <a href=)

BAMBII — INFINITY CLUB II

<p><span>The Toronto-based DJ’s followup to her 2023 EP, <em>INFINITY CLUB</em>, is more than a simple continuation of her previous project. The polyglot works her magic on the new set, exploring a wide range of genres, from jungle to dancehall to R&B. The EP also includes showstopping guest features, such as, Ravyn Lenae, Yaeji, Aluna, and BEAM, who all add their own flavors. Above everything, BAMBII showcases the importance of community building on the dance floor. <em>— Sun Noor</em></span></p>
