The Killers Set New Album Release Date for Imploding the Mirage

The Killers have finally landed on a release date for Imploding the Mirage. The new album is due out in just a little over a month on August 21st through Island Records. “COVID-19 monkey wrenched us. But we persevered. Folks, mark your calendars,” the band wrote on Instagram. Originally slated to drop in May, The Killers’ sixth full-length was put on hold “due to delays in finalizing the album.” It was recorded in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and Park City, Utah, and co-produced by the group with help from Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Julian Casablancas) and Foxygen’s own Jonathan Rado. Imploding the Mirage marks the first Killers LP to be released since the band members left their much loved hometown of Las Vegas. As previously noted, the follow-up to 2017’s Wonderful Wonderful features...

Nicolas Jaar Previews New Album Telas On Relaunched Website: Stream

Ahead of its release this Friday, Nicolas Jaar is previewing his new album, Telas, on his newly relaunched website. The record marks the electronic music composer’s third full-length of 2020, following his March album Cenizas and February’s 2017-2019, an industrial techno record he released under his alias Against All Logic. The hour-long Telas is broken up into four distinct parts — “Telahora”, “Telencima”, “Telahumo”, and “Telallás” — one of which was already shared by Jaar back in May during a Radio Alhara performance. Additional musical contributions come courtesy of cellist Milena Punzi, vocalist Susanna Gonzo, and instrument makers Anna Ippolito and Marzio Zorio, with mastering being handled by Heba Kadry. According to Jaar’s revamped website, Telas is more t...

Grace Sings Sludge Shares New Song “Friend to All”: Stream

Grace Sings Sludge, the solo project from Grace Cooper of The Sandwitches, has shared the new song “Friend to All”. It’s the latest single off her forthcoming album Christ Mocked and the End of a Relationship, which just received the new release date of July 17th. Christ Mocked… is her fifth album under the Grace Sings Sludge banner, but the first recorded at a proper studio. If “Friend to All” is any indication, she’s definitely benefiting from crisper production. The new single is a lovely journey into gothic folk. Over gentle, minor-key guitars, Cooper spins an anxious tale of a downtrodden woman who’s “been friends to all,” in her own way. Cooper’s singing is expansive and expressive; she loves to whittle down a vowel until it’s little more than a hum, and then flip her voice upwa...

Coriky (Ian MacKaye, Joe Lally, Amy Farina) Share New Single “Too Many Husbands”: Stream

Coriky is Ian MacKaye’s new band with his Fugazi bassist Joe Lally, as well as MacKaye’s spouse and co-founder of The Evens, Amy Farina. Together, the group has shared the new single “Too Many Husbands”. They’ve also announced an altered release plan for their self-titled debut album, which now drops on streaming services on June 12th. All three of MacKaye, Lally, and Farina are singers. But while the trio harmonized on lead single “Clean Kill”, the new cut “Too Many Husbands” is a showcase for Farina’s expressive vocals. She overflows with attitude: sneering, blustering, and crackling with wit. Her performance is complemented by staccato bursts of guitar punctuated with furious walls of noise. Check out Coriky’s “Too Many Husbands” below. When the rockers first revealed the record back in...

Frank Zappa’s The Mothers of Invention Getting 50th Anniversary Box Set

The legend goes that on Mother’s Day of 1964, the R&B group Soul Giants handed over the reins to their new lead guitarist Frank Zappa, who then switched the band’s name to The Mothers. When record label executives balked, Zappa riffed on an old proverb about necessity, and The Mothers of Invention were born. The freak rock trailblazers went through a variety of personnel changes over the years, and by the ’70s Zappa had mostly dropped the “of Invention”. Now, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1970 lineup — which lasted only seven months — the Zappa estate has announced a gargantuan 70-song box set called The Mothers 1970, out June 26th. Featuring Aynsley Dunbar (drums), George Duke (piano/keys/trombone), Ian Underwood (organ/keys/guitar), Jeff Simmons (bass/vocals) and vo...
