With the ensuing COVID-19 pandemic all but trapping us in our homes, the medium has served as an essential, if not comprehensive, escape for viewers worldwide. This notion became clear with Tiger King, a show that nabbed record eyes (or so Netflix says) in the budding days of lockdown. The world became so scary, we looked to a bizarre tale of over-the-top zoo owners and assassination attempts for comfort. With...

Anya Taylor-Joy of “The Queen’s Gambit” Once Starred in a Skrillex Music Video

She was a familiar face in the EDM scene long before she wiped the chess floor with her male counterparts as the badass Beth Harmon. Long before she wiped the chess floor with her male counterparts as The Queen’s Gambit‘s badass Beth Harmon, Anya Taylor-Joy starred in a Skrillex music video. Back in 2016, Taylor-Joy, whose magnetic performance in the critically acclaimed Netflix drama miniseries skyrocketed her to household name status, stunned in the official music video for Skrillex’s remix of GTA‘s “Red Lips (feat. Sam Bruno).” In retrospect, her performance is the antithesis of Beth’s stoic etiquette behind the chess board, where she calmly stares down her opponents with her signature icy glare. Instead, the “Red Lips” vid...

The Queen’s Gambit: How to Dress Like Grandmaster and ’60s Babe Beth Harmon

You don’t have to like chess to fall in love with Beth Harmon’s captivating genius, which often shows itself in her slick personal style. The chess prodigy and ’60s babe, played by Anya Taylor-Joy in The Queen’s Gambit, has a mind that’s only matched by her fashion sense. Beth’s timeless wardrobe, designed by French costumer Gabriele Binder, was inspired by Audrey Hepburn and Edie Sedgwick — and we’re showing you how to dress like the grandmaster herself in 2020. Beth Harmon’s wardrobe has a very distinct colour palette. She wears black, white, jewel tones, pastels, and check prints, with a pop of a primary colour like yellow or red every so often. You’ll find Beth wearing A-line silhouettes — tops with Peter Pan collars, boatnecks, and...

Cast for Mad Max Spinoff Furiosa Confirmed: Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II

Things are starting to rev up for George Miller’s Mad Max spinoff film Furiosa. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Anya Taylor-Joy, Chris Hemsworth, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II have climbed aboard the next parable in the wasteland. Taylor-Joy will play a young Furiosa, a role originally iconized by Charlize Theron, who will not be a part of the production. As of press time, it’s unclear who Hemsworth and Abdul-Mateen II will be playing. It’s funny how both have played gods of sorts. Miller will direct, co-write, and produce the project that’s yet to be greenlit by Warner Bros. However, seeing how 2015’s Fury Road proved to be both a critical and commercial success for the studio — even nabbing a Best Picture nom — the light is imminent. Back in May, Miller announced the project to in an in...

Björk Joins All-Star Cast of Robert Eggers’ The Northman

Hold on to your swan dress, Björk is returning to the silver screen for the first time since 2000’s Dancer in the Dark.  The Icelandic queen joins the star-studded cast of Robert Eggers‘ new film The Northman, and best of all, her character has been given the evocative name “The Slav Witch”. As if that weren’t enough, her real-life daughter Ísadóra Barney has also joined The Northman and will be making her cinematic debut. Until yesterday, the casting news was a closely-guarded secret, and it seems to have been revealed accidentally. Eric Higgins, best known for a short arc on the TV series Vikings, posted a video of the casting board that included his own headshot. “There are only two times in life when your profile pic is on a wall,” he wrote, “1) You’re a wanted criminal ...

Opening Scene, New Trailer for The New Mutants Revealed During Comic-Con@Home: Watch

The New Mutants is still targeting an August 28th release, though as a summer blockbuster season looks increasingly unlikely, fans shouldn’t be surprised if there’s yet another delay. Disney/20th Century must have figured fans have waited long enough for a good glimpse at the X-Men horror film, however, as they revealed a whole bunch of new footage during the New Mutants Comic-Con@Home panel — including the opening scene and a power-packed trailer. Moderated by Ira Madison III, the panel virtually brought together writer/director Josh Boone and stars Blu Hunt (Danielle Moonstar/Mirage), Maisie Williams (Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane), Anya Taylor-Joy (Illyana Rasputin/Magik), Charlie Heaton (Sam Guthrie/Cannonball), Henry Zaga (Robert da Costa/Sunspot), and Alice Braga (Dr. Cecil...
