Skrillex Confirms Multiple Bodies of Work On the Way: “There’s So Much to Express”

Skrillex has finally confirmed the news his fans have been clamoring for: he’s all but finished “multiple bodies of work.” Speaking to Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1, the dubstep icon waxed poetic about his experiences creating “Don’t Go,” a collab with Justin Bieber and Don Toliver. It was his comments about future projects, however, that fanned the flames of the anticipation surrounding his long-awaited sophomore album. “I don’t like to say too much,” Skrillex said, “but I mean, I have some projects, I hate the word finishing, but I have all the songs and I’m just in there tweaking and releasing some singles before I decided to put out the bodies of work.” He then went on to explain how he initially planned...

Kanye West’s Latest ‘Donda’ Event Is Most-Watched Apple Music Livestream Ever

West held a first Donda listening event on July 23 and since then has been living at Mercedes-Benz Stadium while putting the finishing touches on Donda, his 10th studio album. Between the two listening parties, West made considerable tweaks to the album, adding and removing features and entire songs, so it remains to be seen what the definitive version of Donda will sound like once the album is released. After numerous delays, Donda is expected to be released in the coming weeks. The second event on Aug. 5 also pulled in $7 million in revenue from in-person merchandise sales, sources say. That number matches the revenue for the first drop from Yeezy x Gap, West’s new collaboration with the Gap, which former Gap CEO Mickey Drexler told Yahoo Finance generated $7 million overnight when ...

Here’s How Much Each Music Streaming Platform Pays Per Stream

Streaming has become the most popular form of music consumption in recent years, accounting for roughly 64% of all recorded music revenues according to the RIAA US sales database. One of the most common questions, especially for musicians, is how those revenues are broken down, and how much each artist gets paid per stream. Though that number differs with every streaming service, most artists are in agreement that it’s not nearly enough. The most popular service, Spotify, accounts for over 44% of the market share. However, despite how favorable it is with consumers, the streaming giant pays an average of only $0.00348 per stream, according to data sourced from The Trichordist. To put that into perspective, an artist earning three tenths of a cent per stream would make ...

He was writing a song with producer Fred again.. and his brother, who are in a duo called Rain Radio. The goal was simply to make the perfect dance music track that could be played by Rain Radio in a Las Vegas club. “It was just like, I’d never really written dance music properly,”Sheeran recalled. “I’ve never really like gone put my head to it and let’s make it...

Listen to Moore Kismet’s Radiant Pride 2021 Mix on Apple Music

With each new project, Moore Kismet takes another leap towards the upper echelon of electronic music. And with an album looming, their ascension seems to be at a boiling point. Kismet, who was named to EDM.com‘s Class of 2021, has now teamed up with Apple Music to release a scintillating DJ mix for Pride Month 2021. Spanning 40 tracks, the mix is a microcosm of their groundbreaking approach to electronic music production, which is acclaimed for its hypnotic yet ferocious sound design. A song-cycle of dazzling bass music, Kismet’s Pride 2021 mix is representative of a seasoned selector and sonic storyteller—a dumbfounding notion considering they are only 16 years of age. It’s another indicator of their penchant for aching melodies and vulnerable songwriting, two ...

Apple Music Jabs Spotify With Controversial Newsletter: Read the Full Statement

A recent newsletter dispensed by Apple Music has delivered a conspicuous jab at Spotify for the platform’s polarizing payment model.  While the newsletter doesn’t directly mention Spotify by name, the parallels are easy to discern. The statement paints a striking picture about how Apple Music handles its payouts to artists and songwriters. One of the major takeaways from Apple Music’s newsletter stems from the company’s assertion that they “do not ask anyone to accept a lower royalty rate in exchange for featuring.” This is a blatant attempt to twist the knife into Spotify’s contentious “Discovery Mode” algorithmic feature, which gives artists the option to have their music boosted by the platform’s a...

Apple Music pays one penny per stream

Engadget Apple Music’s payment rate for artists and labels is fundamentally a penny per stream, according to a letter from the company posted on its artist dashboard and first reported by the Wall Street Journal. That payment rate is higher than Spotify, which has a confusing variable rate scheme that basically tops out at a half-penny per stream. Announcing a penny-per-stream rate is a nice PR win for Apple Music, since it is 1. very simple and 2. Spotify hates talking about its per-stream payments, which the company insists are a misleading figure. Seriously, it just launched an entire website called Loud&Clear last month designed to help artists and fans understand how payments work, and a good chunk of it is devoted to explaining why per-stream rates are not the right thing to focu...
