A federal judge in Florida on Tuesday dismissed Apple’s copyright infringement claims against a Florida startup whose software helps security researchers find vulnerabilities in Apple products including the iPhone. U.S. District Judge Rodney Smith ruled in favor of Corellium LLC, saying its software emulating the iOS operating system that runs on the iPhone and iPad amounted to “fair use” because it was “transformative” and helped developers find security flaws. Apple accused Corellium of essentially replicating iOS to create “virtual” iOS-operated devices, whose “sole function” was to run unauthorized copies of the system on non-Apple hardware. But the Fort Lauderdale-based judge said Corellium “adds something new to iOS” by letting users see and halt running processes, take live snapshot...
Apple has announced AirPods Max, the tech giant’s first ever over-ear headphones. The cordless devices will retail for $549 and become available starting Tuesday, December 15th. The history of headphone technology begins with over-the-ear models, but starting with The Walkman in 1979, earbuds began to overtake them in popularity. It’s a trend that Apple helped along in 2001, when their first generation of earbuds shipped along with the original iPod. Their wireless AirPods launched five years later. As demand for a wider variety of listening options has increased, different people place varied values on discretion, comfort, and audio fidelity. The AirPods Max are the result of Apple bowing to demand for a high-end listening experience. Similar to the AirPods Pro ($249), the new Max models ...
A new macOS Big Sur update is usually great news for Apple users, but those who also use Native Instruments‘ Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3 DJ controller might want to take caution before nabbing the latest update. Native Instruments has warned of the potentially harmful effects of the update in regards to the company’s S4 Mk3 controller, which could be subjected to irreversible damage. The S4—and other devices built for Intel processing structures—don’t exactly mesh with Apple’s shift to their own in-house Silicon-based processing. “Using a Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk3 on macOS 11 (Big Sur) can cause malfunction and potentially damage your controller,” the company warned in a statement on its support pages. “We are working together with Apple...

Source: Apple / Apple Event Many thought Apple was done for the year after announcing its new iPhone 12 lineup, but the company said aht aht aht, we got one more thing to drop on y’all. Tuesday (Nov.10) Apple might have definitely changed the way PC’s are being made. During the well-produced virtual presentation — we hope Apple keeps doing even after the pandemic comes to an end — Tim Cook happily confirmed the news reported earlier this year that his company would be dumping Intel and processors after 15 years and will start putting its own chips into Macs with the announcement of the M1 chip. Apple didn’t waste no time putting the new M1 chip to work, putting it inside the new MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, and Mac Mini, giving each device significant performance boosts. Apple is no s...
Streaming giant Spotify is heavily favored among music fans, even those who stream via their Apple devices. The popular Apple Watch is a great tool for this purpose, but previously, the Spotify app did not allow streaming directly from the watch without an iPhone tethered. A new update will alleviate that inconvenience, as the Spotify app will now be usable directly from the Apple Watch without the need for an iPhone to be paired with the device. While the watch previously acted as more of a remote for the iPhone, its newer incarnations boast expanded functionality, including this Spotify update. Spotify Everywhere Users can now leave the iPhone behind when it comes to streaming from Spotify, making things especially convenient for those looking to play music during a run o...
