WHAAM! gallery has unveiled Turnover, the first US solo exhibition by Japan-based artist ancco. Showcasing a new series of ceramic sculptures within an immersive installation, Turnover delves into themes of time, transformation and resilience, weaving together personal and societal cycles into an introspective body of work.Rooted in her lived experiences, ancco’s work is shaped by her battle with atopic eczema. She explores the accelerated pace of decay, whether in the body or in society and how it influences her creative process. Drawing a parallel between the rapid turnover of her own skin and the relentless churn of modern culture, she transforms personal affliction into artistic expression.A key inspiration for Turnover comes from old mass-produced toys and stuffed animals ancco discov...

DRIFT Returns to Milan Design Week With Audi-Backed Installation

After a 10-year absence, Amsterdam-based studio DRIFT is back at Milan Design Week with a new installation created in partnership with Audi. Titled Drift Us, the work is part of Audi’s House of Progress program and is installed in the courtyard of the Portrait Milano Hotel. The interactive piece responds to visitors’ movements, simulating the effect of wind across a field. As people walk through, robotic elements shift in sync, turning each step into a visible force. The goal is to highlight how humans shape their environment through motion.“Without movement, there is no progress,” say DRIFT founders Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta. The installation mirrors natural rhythms—like breathing or a heartbeat—to offer a brief pause amid the design week crowds. The collaboration reflects DRIFT and A...

Jeane Terra and the Alchemy of Memory In “Pele do Rio”

Jeane Terra, a Brazilian visual artist from Minas Gerais, based in Rio de Janeiro, opened her solo exhibition, "Pele do Rio" ("Skin of the River"), at São Paulo's Janaina Torres Gallery. The exhibition digs into themes of endings and erasure that Terra's work is all about. Mixing it up with painting, sculpture, photography, and video art, she creates this dialogue between her own memories and the collective vibe of the Amazon, giving form to both pain and hope in her art."I became a memory prospector," Terra says, which really captures her process of hunting down and giving new meaning to stories. "Pele do Rio" hits home the urgency of capturing what's here and gone, turning ruins and memories into something precious. By diving into places marked by shared loss, like the Amazon, Terra's ai...

Through the Lens: Joshua Gordon

Joshua Gordon works on instinct, refusing to be confined by a single medium. Whether through photography, writing, film or the occasional act of graffiti, his work thrives on immersion—throwing himself into subcultures, high-risk environments and frontal encounters with quite the interesting subjects. Currently based in London, though rarely stationary, he calls a 120-year-old pirate ship home. At the moment, he’s answering these questions from a nondescript hotel in Brussels, an unintended stop on his ongoing trips.Gordon’s career has taken him deep into Tokyo’s underground, into the woods of Sweden with Yung Lean, a dance sesh with Corville Cuffy for Vegyn’s “It’s Nice To Be Alive” video and face-to-face with cult film director Takashi Miike in an infamous Tokyo strip club. His process i...

Gongkan Muses on the Surrealism of Social Life at Tang Contemporary Art

A new solo exhibition by Thai artist Kantapon Metheekul, better known as Gongkan, is set to open at Tang Contemporary Art, just in time for Art Basel Hong Kong. Titled Asynchronous Affinities, the show is a play on the proverbial idea of “right person, wrong time” as a point of departure, using it as a lens to explore the delicate ambiguity of interpersonal relationships, social situations and contemporary life at large. This body of work marks a new chapter for the Bangkok-based painter, as he approaches social criticism and individual development in universal scenes of celebration, eating and play. The delightfully uncanny vignettes expand on the artist’s oeuvre which follows the journey of a young boy – a representation of himself – as he drifts between cosmic spaces, cross-cultural cont...

Take A Look At The Skateroom’s Dreamlike Jim Jarmusch Collab

Iconic filmmaker, elusive visual artist, and self-proclaimed night owl Jim Jarmusch is difficult to pin down. However, he and The Skateroom have teamed up for the first time to release an exclusive collaboration, available only for the next 48 hours. True to his persona, the deck's artwork also has a late-night origin story. Nearly 40 years ago, the filmmaker sat up into the early hours of the night, photographing a series of snapshots from influential black and white movies on an analog TV screen. Those photos remained hidden in the archives until now. The result is a hauntingly simplistic but beautiful visual collage. Each deck features a random combination of three snapshots. Like much of his work, the dreamlike narrative between each photo is up to the viewer's interpretation. To honor...
