Moosey Art in Norwich, UK has lifted the veil on In Search of Light, a new solo exhibition by Ivan Seriy. With technical cues from his graffiti roots, Seriy brings his whimsical characters to life on canvas, offering a compelling commentary on the contradictions of our time through a rich showcase of oil paintings. The exhibition chronicles the journey of a nameless boy and his cat friend as they venture through a dark forest, in a search for, as the title suggests, light. Each work is enchanted with the excitement of a new discovery as the pair face unexpected challenges along the way.Autobiographical elements lend emotional depth to these works, complemented by a 3D-rendered quality that brings them closer to reality. London's Tate Modern is turning 25 this May, and to celebrate the museum will reunite visitors with some of the most iconic works in its history. Among them is "Maman" by Louise Bourgeois, a 30-foot-tall bronze spider, returning to the Turbine Hall for the first time since 2000.Like a creature straight from a dream (or nightmare,) the sculpture pays tribute to the artist’s own mother, who worked as a weaver in a textile workshop, Embodying themes of nurture and vulnerability, the sculpture’s slender, steel figure, while evoking a sense of awe and fear, casts a protective shadow over the space as she shelters her sac of marble eggs."Maman" will anchor a new trail throughout the museum featuring 25 key works, both old and new, including favorites like Mark Rothko’s Seagram Murals and Dorothe...
Villepin in Hong Kong presents DAY ZER0, a new solo exhibition by Yukimasa Ida, now on view until March 2025. For his inaugural show with the gallery, the Japanese artist reimagines interconnection across time and space, unveiling a cosmic sense of hope for an ever-evolving world. The exhibition spans three sections, beginning in the year 30,067, where Ida preserves fragments of a bygone world. Memory and nostalgia are realized through the long, meditative brushstrokes of In Space, while a series of sculptures resemble the likes of spiritual icons from the 20th century. Elsewhere, lush canvases of oceans and mountains reveal nature’s power, as The Ark contemplates the tension between the ephemeral and the eternal. The final act, Zero Hour, makes room for “a moment of rebirth.” Inspired by C...
On Goldfish Street in Hong Kong, you can find rows of Betta fish dangling in small plastic bags, organized in neat, endless rows. Many of their journeys begin in Thailand, where they’re farmed in solitude and shipped across the world. Raised for display, these creatures embody a paradox of hostility and beauty, where their inability to coexist with one another is dually defined by their nature and their involuntary confinement. This delicate tension is at the heart of Trevor Yeung’s latest solo exhibition, now on view at Magician Space in Beijing until February 25, 2025. Known for his mixed-media works that often consist of plants and animals, Yeung examines closed systems that dictate behavior and emotion, revealing the artifice of human relations. In Not a Fighter, But a Lover, the artist ...
