Maybe it’s because the brand tends to focus on perfecting a few hero items that are made to last rather than releasing extensive short-term collections, or it could be because the brand seems to be able to read into what we all truly want to wear. Either way, the latest capsule wardrobe piece the brand has put its perfectly oversized stamp on is the humble bomber jacket, and of course, it doesn’t disappoint. Released in four colours (for now), the Astra Shell Jacket is the modern twist on a classic we didn’t even know we needed. And since the bomber is set to be huge news again for autumn/winter 2022 and beyond, we’re predicting a sell-out soon enough. Of course, it didn’t take long for fashion’s coolest people to jump on it, and we’ve already seen...
Instagram is one of my favourite destinations for a daily dose of fashion inspiration. Each season I love poring over our trend guide and street style stories, but there’s something to be said for seeing those whose style—and wardrobe—you enjoy try new-season pieces, test out trends and rework wardrobe staples in ways you could never imagine. They sometimes do the hard work, so we don’t have to. So, when I thought about what I wanted to invest in ahead of the new season, I knew I needed to go straight to my usual source. And, of course, then share it with you! With that in mind I asked six fashion influencers to share their autumn wish lists with me, revealing what pieces they’ve got their eye on and what they’re planning on wearing...
Autumn is absolutely my favourite season to dress for. Between knee-high boots, woollen coats, and leather separates, there’s nothing I love more the curating outfits with layers, textures, and silhouettes in mind. And it goes without saying that an integral part of my autumn wardrobe centres around knitwear. As someone who spends much of their time complaining about how cold they are, over the years I’ve developed quite the extensive knitwear collection. Cable knits are my weak spot, though lately, I’ve found myself gravitating towards lots of striped styles (more on that in a moment). However, I’m always open to the idea of trying something new, which is where 2022’s freshest knitwear trends come in. I’ve scoured Instagram to discover which knitwear tr...
How often should you wash your coat? In short, you’re looking at once at the end of the season according to intel from the on-demand, sustainable laundry service Oxwash. But surely there are nuances to this dry-cleaning schedule, right? What about how much you wear said coat? The fabric it’s made from? How long you’ve owned it? And how you store it? Well, to dig into the idea a little bit further in time for coat season, I reached out to Oxwash to get some further clarification and their founder, Dr Kyle Grant, duly responded with some incredibly helpful tips and tricks to keeping your outerwear looking in mint condition, lasting much longer and, well, not smelling like you’ve lived in it for the past few winters even if you have. Jacket and coat weather is fas...
Welcome to The Great Try-On. With autumn well and truly in the air, we seized the opportunity to try on some of the best new-in pieces from some of your favourite brands, documenting the process along the way. We believe that the best way to shop online is to see an item IRL and to read candid reviews, so we hope that this leads you to your most successful purchases of the year. Arket has long been the gold standard on the high street for wardrobe staples. Okay, actually not that long—it only launched in the UK five years ago. But honestly, I have no idea what I (or my fellow editors) did or where we shopped before that. Not only does Arket design the classics well, but also I find the quality really stands up, even against some of my more expensive designer buys. Hence I ke...
Photo: Courtesy of Balmain; Courtesy of Y/Project; Imaxtree/ Miu Miu; Courtesy of Chanel In films, there’s a common plotline where characters relive the same day over and over again. For fashion editors, we’re sort of doing the same thing. But instead of repeating our days on end, it’s all about watching trends come back that you swore never would. You can claim you’ll never wear puddle pants or the grunge aesthetic again but manage to also buy into it a few years later (it’s all a part of the plotline, honey). Love it or hate it, it’s only natural that things come back in style eventually, and nothing speaks more to that truth than the jewellery trends spotted on the autumn/winter 2022 runways. While most may assume the most no...
As we went on our weekly (okay, daily) pilgrimage to our favourite retail sites, we were stopped in our tracks by three brands. Out of every retailer on the high street, it’s Mango, COS and Zara that piqued our interest as soon as we entered their new-in sections. With fresh autumn buys coming in thick and fast, this is one of the best times to snap up items that work not only for the new season but also for many seasons to come. These pieces are often more transitional and therefore easier to slot into your looks during any given period. To break it down for you, Mango is the destination right now for stand-out designer-inspired shoes, luxe outerwear and non-boring staples such as gathered midi dresses and embroidered blouses. When it comes to COS, of course, there are a few striped...
My review: Purple is making a big splash for A/W 22, so I had to try on this punchy pussy-bow blouse and matching tailored trousers for size. Naturally, the trousers were about 18 miles too long for me (all high-street trousers are, and they’re supposedly made that way for the very purpose of you tailoring them to fit perfectly), but the colour was undeniably fun! The trousers were snug on my thighs,, but to size up would destroy the fitted waist. The blouse’s taffeta fabrication was satisfyingly weighty and crunchy (if you know, you know), and the bow held its place well unlike other flimsier fabrics that could have easily drooped—what’s more is that it is made from recycled polyester, which is a far better option for the environment than new polyester. It is q...
With the changing of the season comes a shift in our shopping attitudes. We move from whimsical purchasing behaviours to investing more seriously in our wardrobes. Summer can feel rather carefree on the fashion front, and the clothes that come with it are often bought for a specific event (like a wedding or a particular holiday) or feel trend-led and transient. Autumn/winter is all about pinpointing those luxurious pieces that will serve your closet well this winter and for many years to come. (Deciding to add a classic camel coat to your armoury will never, ever be a bad idea.) Now is the time when editors, stylists, influencers and fashion enthusiasts alike begin to consider which elevated coats, bags, dresses, boots and knits are worthy of their time, budget and wardrobe space. You Dese...
Regular readers of Who What Wear will know that we’re knitwear obsessed. From knitted vests to Breton jumpers, we’re always looking for the next chic way to keep warm, but if we’re entirely honest, it can sometimes be difficult to make certain knits feel chic. There is good news however, as the high street seems to catching up with a trend that we’ve noticed slowly making its way onto the street style set since the last days of summer. And if anything is going to make us happy to trade in our summer dresses, it’s this. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be. The new season is upon us, and after a positively balmy summer, the weather finally has a chill in the air as autumn steadily swoops in. If you’re anything like me, a few days ago, your thoughts immediately turned to your autumn wardrobe. As soon as I felt a little cold walking down the street for the first time in months, cosy ideas of blazers, knits and leather trousers entered my head. I’m an autumn lover, after all, and so I immediately started browsing the new-in collections and found so many great gems. I know I’m not alone in saying that I’ll be tightening my belt this autumn/winter, and with prices rising all around us, I was really impressed to see that a lot of the best pieces I found were still sitting under that £100 mark. Yes, you’ll be pleased to hear it’s still possibl...
Even better news, however, is that both high-street and designer brands stock these pieces. Whether it’s the classic slogan knit from Bella Freud (of which there are plenty to choose from) or the chic versions from Whistles, there are various versions that we love.
