Yes, the Grammy Awards took place two months ago, but in the topsy-turvy world of the last 14 months, the sequel to part one of the Pre-Grammy party didn’t take place until now. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Davis’s annual Pre-Grammy gala, traditionally held the night before the Grammy Awards, went online in 2021 and Davis decided to break it into two events. The first edition, benefitting MusiCares, was held Jan. 30, which would have been the night before the Grammys, but the Grammys got postponed to March 14. Then, the second edition, benefitting the Grammy Museum, was slated to take place on March 13 — the night before the rescheduled Grammys — but Davis contracted Bell’s palsy and postponed the event until May 15. Still with us? Saturday night’s event followed the same temp...

After launching in 2012, Tawbox scored its major break working with Stormzy in 2017. Now, the pair is working on the creative direction for his upcoming headlining slot at Reading and Leeds Festival this August. In spite of so many years and so much success, both Bronski and Rimmel say it doesn’t feel like they’ve been doing this for nearly a decade, largely because, as Rimell says, “We’re always evolving. We’re constantly working towards the next thing and how we can progress from the last thing that we’ve done.” Below, Tawbox breaks down how its three 2021 Brit Awards performances came together. Olivia Rodrigo One of Bronski and Rimell’s first Zoom calls was in fact with Rodrigo and her team. They say it didn’t take long to develop the idea for this performance — for which the 18-y...
Drake had a pretty big Tuesday. First, he found out he was named Billboard‘s Artist of the Decade, thanks to his 2010s charts dominance, and then he had dinner with a very special guest: Ronald Isley. Billboard announced Tuesday that the chart-topping rapper will receive the Artist of the Decade Award at the Billboard Music Awards on May 23, and his surreal day had an equally impressive ending when the Toronto superstar dined with his “idol” and a founding member of The Isley Brothers. “Today was one of those days it doesn’t feel real,” he wrote on his Instagram Story (see below). “Waking up to artist of the decade then having dinner with my idol @ronaldisley and listening to the stories behind every song that shaped my love for emotional ...
While the honor is richly deserved, King never planned on becoming a famous singer in her youth. When she initially entered the music business as a Brill Building scribe in the late ’50s, she only saw herself as a songwriter. “I became an artist [in the late ’60s], not reluctantly, but it was just the right circumstances that brought me into being an artist,” King recalls to Billboard. “And really, as a songwriter, you’re always the artist when you’re presenting the song to another artist. Through Lou Adler and with James Taylor’s help, I took ownership of being the artist who sang my own songs.” Fans of King’s warm, wistful style will be thrilled to hear that she is not only planning on attending the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...
Since its founding in 1970, the Songwriters Hall of Fame has honored only 31 women out of its 439 inductees. (In 2002, Simpson was inducted alongside her late husband Nick Ashford). In June 2022, this number will increase to 32 women when Mariah Carey and 13 men are inducted at the 51st annual awards gala, which has been postponed twice because of the COVID-19 pandemic. In an email to Billboard, Linda Moran, president and CEO of the Songwriters Hall of Fame, said that she and her colleagues are unfamiliar with the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame and declined to comment on the organization. While DeLoatch aims to celebrate the contributions of women songwriters whose recognition is overdue, she stresses that the event is inclusive of all women regardless of race or genre. “It is not me...

The position reports and “partner[s] closely” with the board of trustees. Much of the description calls for someone who is a big ideas person, using such terms as a “critical thinker” and “culture shaper,” with a “track record and experience holding themselves and team members accountable to evolving...
The 2021 Brit Awards delivered live music in the “first major indoor music event to welcome back a live audience” on Tuesday (May 11) — but which performance was your favorite? Dua Lipa performed a medley of hits from Future Nostalgia underground, but the album won top honors by taking home the top album award. This year’s Rising Star recipient Griff performed within the “Black Hole” of a heart display, while Arlo Parks brought “Hope” along with a beautiful arrangement of flowers to London’s O2 arena.
