Little Big Town, Minus One Member, Hits the Nashville Streets For ‘Wine, Beer, Whiskey’ at the 2021 ACM Awards

Assisted by a backing marching band — and down one usual member — Little Big Town performed their 2020 hit “Wine, Beer, Whiskey” outdoors in downtown Nashville at the 2021 ACM Awards on Sunday night (April 18). One of the quartet’s founding members, Phillip Sweet, introduced the performance by explaining that he would not be joining, as he had recently tested positive for COVID-19. In good spirits and “on [his] way to a full recovery,” Sweet wished for a full return to live music — and Little Big Town gave viewers a taste of that with their roaring performance of the Nightfall single, strutting down the streets of Nashville with drums and horns providing able support behind them. Brothers Osborne Close Out the 2021 ACM Awards With Electric Performance of ‘Dead’s Man Curve’

“I remember calling our manager at the time,” John said. “And I told him, I’m like, I mean, ‘We can’t go into the studio. I don’t know what’s wrong with me — I don’t know why I’m not happy. I’m depressed. My anxiety is through the roof. I can’t sleep. My ears are ringing.'” He added, “I was very reluctant to say anything. We grew up in a culture where if you fell over and skinned your knee, you just get up, don’t cry, and walk it off. There comes a point in your life where you can’t do that anymore, and you need to stop and sort your s— out.” Eventually, John received the help he needed but admitted to almost leaving his musical career behind.  “With a lot of therapy...

Diane Warren Performs Her 12 Oscar-Nominated Songs in 5 Minutes

The legendary songwriter is hoping to win for the first time this year, for “Io si (Seen)” from ‘The Life Ahead.’ The legendary songwriter Diane Warren has accumulated a dozen best original song Oscar nominations across five different decades, but she has never taken home a statuette. No other woman in history, across all Oscar categories, has ever remained winless through this many noms. This could all change at the 93rd Oscars on April 25, as the 64-year-old’s latest nominated tune — “Io si (Seen)” from the film The Life Ahead, which she cowrote with Laura Pausini — has already won the best original song Golden Globe award, and is competing in a distinguished but wide-open Oscar race (unlike when previous tunes of hers came up against steamroller...

10 Noteworthy Covers of U2’s ‘Pride (In the Name of Love)’

“Pride (In the Name of Love)” was the lead single from U2’s fourth studio album, The Unforgettable Fire. The song has power, passion and purpose — and contains an exceptional lyric (“They took your life/ They could not take your pride”). The song became U2’s first top 40 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. That said, it’s surprising it didn’t do better than it did, given that it’s considered such a classic today. The song peaked at No. 33 on the Hot 100 — good, but not great. And neither it nor the album on which it was featured received a Grammy nomination. But it set the stage for the band’s 1987 breakthrough with The Joshua Tree, which spawned back-to-back No. 1 singles on the Hot 100 and won two Grammys, including album of the year. ̶...

Hey, Oscar, are you single? Yes, I’m looking,” reads the Match.com profile, “Songwriter and hopeless romantic,” that Warren posted this morning. “I’m looking for a man in my life. I like them short, bald, smooth, and golden. Joy McKean, Australia’s ‘Queen of Country,’ to Receive Ted Albert Award at 2021 APRAs

Now aged 91, McKean composed “The Biggest Disappointment, “Ringer from the Top End,” “Walk a Country Mile” and “Indian Pacific,” and did so while touring regional and remote Australia at a time when the perceived role of women was that of home maker. McKean will be in the room for the presentation during the 2021 APRA Awards, set to take place April 28 in Sydney. Her contribution to Australian country music “as a pioneering songwriter, bush balladeer, touring performer and artist manager is unparalleled,” reads a statement from APRA. The Ted Albert honor “was most unexpected,” she admits in a statement, “and I thank those who must have nominated me for such consideration by APRA.” It’s not the first time McKean been honored for her art and advocacy. In 1991, McKean was awarded th...
