EDM.com proudly publishes four installments of annual year-end coverage: Industry Leaders, Performances, Music Producers and Songs. The electronic music production community released new music at a dizzying rate in 2022. And it would be unfair to its diverse range of creators to publish a nebulous blanket list of the year’s top songs, so we’ve chosen 10 popular sub-genres and recognized five tracks, each chosen by members of the EDM.com staff. Check out a playlist of our top 50 tracks of 2022 below, followed by a breakdown of each individual song. House Chris Lorenzo & COBRAH – MAMI In 2022, tech house continued to bubble up from the underground and dominate the festival circuit. And one track in particular ran circles around the rest: “MAMI,” a four-on-the-floor...

Fans of Liquid Stranger have something exciting to look forward to in 2023. The Wakaan label boss has revealed a brand new EP, Unity. The project is slated to release next year on the imprint’s SSKWAN offshoot, which specializes in downtempo electronic music. To build the hype surrounding the EP’s release, Stranger today dropped its lead single, “Smoke N Hope.” Wakaan diehards are sure to be mesmerized by this dreamy record, which weaves ragga-inspired vocals by J Lauryn with wonky drums and pulsing bass. After kicking off with a hypnotic acoustic guitar riff, the track whispers and winds before an enthralling chorus takes hold—and refuses to let go. In the wake of Stranger’s mind-bending B A L A N C E album and Dimensions EP, there’s no doubt t...

LYNY, Saka, VILLA, More Shine In New Sable Valley Compilation: Listen

If there’s one dogma defining RL Grime‘s Sable Valley, it’s the imprint’s commitment to ushering in the next era of bass music stars. That tenet remains as true as ever in Sable Valley Summer Vol. 3, the label’s brand new compilation. Spanning 14 tracks, the record is yet another stunning showcase of a post-dubstep landscape replete with young, hungry producers carving their own lane in bass music. TVBOO Taps GRiZ for Wonky Lead Single From Debut Album: Listen to “Bass Music”

Why aren’t DJs allowed to work at aquariums? Because they always drop the bass. Despite that awful dad joke, read on to discover the lead single from TVBOO‘s debut album, “Bass Music,” a heavy-hitting collaboration with GRiZ. “Bass Music” is a tongue-in-cheek dubstep banger replete with the wonky sound design of TVBOO, who has quickly emerged as one of the genre’s most jocular characters. GRiZ’s heady bass and fluttery arpeggios take over the verse before making way for the song’s drop, which features TVBOO’s signature saws and slithering bass patches. TVBOO said that working with GRiZ, who was named one of EDM.com‘s best music producers of 2021, was “one of the coolest things to happen” in his career. “...

Xotix Blast Off With Blistering Multi-Genre EP, “Best Coast”

We suspect the 2018 version of Xotix would be proud of where this ascendant duo stands today.  It was less than a handful of years ago that Xotix attended Enchanted Forest and planted the seeds for what is a memorable festival act in the making. This year, the duo are fully immersed in the circuit, performing to crowds at Wobbleland and Lightning in a Bottle with many more stops to come, including a landmark performance at Excision’s Lost Lands. Topping it all off is the surging bass music tandem’s brand new Best Coast EP, a four-track offering that makes for the perfect introduction to the duo’s eclectic brand of bass. A cursory search through Xotix’s discography paints a picture of a duo who are rapidly coming into their own, and...

GRiZ and Clozee Drop Must-Listen Collab, “Color Of Your Soul”

When it comes to producing huge, symphonic bass tracks, both GRiZ and Clozee are second to none. So it was only a matter of time until a collaboration of this magnitude took place. Today, the Denver-based artists have released their new single “Color Of Your Soul,” arriving on Clozee’s Odyzey Music banner. If you have seen GRiZ or Clozee perform over the past few months, you’ve probably witnessed them tease the track at their live shows. Living in the Denver area, they began to grow close, naturally developing a creative bond that led them to the studio. And before long, their first-ever collab came to fruition. “It was an absolute dream to make ‘Color Of Your Soul’ with GRiZ,” CloZee said in a press statement. “Grant has always been a hu...

Fresh off a Grammy nomination for his fourth album, Fallen Embers, the electronic music superstar today dropped a massive edit of “Story Of My Life,” an upcoming crossover collab with Sueco and Trippie Redd. And it’s not for the faint of heart. Fans hoping for the classic ILLENIUM sound can find solace in the original version of “Story Of My Life,” which drops on Friday and will almost certainly be rooted in his signature melodic bass style. However, the “Heavy Edit” of the track is raucous in nature. Angsty and breathtaking, it’s a pop-punk and emo rap crossover rife with dubstep influences and ferocious sound design. You can listen to the “Heavy Edit...

In what has been a prolific year for Moore Kismet, somehow they have saved their best for last. Today they dropped their last release of 2021, a stunning single dubbed “Call Of The Unicorn.” Kismet, who recently made history as the youngest artist to ever perform at Chicago’s iconic Lollapalooza festival, produced the track when they were 14 years old. Now 16, the electronic music wunderkind is preparing to release their debut album by unveiling one of its most anticipated singles. There is perhaps no one in the dance music scene more adept at blending the banger with the ballad—a notion reinforced by the hypnotic cadence of the song’s verses and screeching sound design of its drops. And with a stentorian topline from Tasha Baxter at its bedrock, “Ca...
